Hey all! Currently in hospital for just over a week now because my flare up was so bad and nearly went into cardiac arrest because of the stress (scariest moment of my life), I have been on just pentasa and then another type of mesalene(can't spell it sorry!) and they didn't work so I started my first infusion of remicade yesterday and had a pretty crappy down in the dumps day with cramping and the like :( so basically just looking for any nice stories of people on remission? I can't even imagine what it would be like to eat pizza or anything I enjoy again, sounds a bit pessimistic I know but I need some reassurance that things aren't always like this :(

Mine took about a month and a half to kick into full effect, and even then it needed a top up of imuran to help it out. Then - I have been gainfully working for 4 years, physically active (able to ride my bike on 30 km rides), canoeing, swimming, skating. In terms of food, I can probably eat just about anything now but am still working stuff into it (occasional oatmeal, some veggies, sometimes even popcorn!). Because of previous surgeries, I have a bit of short bowel syndrome to contend with. Otherwise I think I genuinely could eat just about everything.

Give it a chance - it is worth it!

I was diagnosed in March of this year with crohns and was very sick at the time - off work for 3 months, losing 30lb, crazy from prednisone and just miserable. I am now on imuran and am feeling well finally. I am back working, regaining strength, running again (did my first 15k today), and slowly introducing food into my diet. I, too felt that I would never see a light at the end of the tunnel but I am feeling strong and seem to be in remission. And feeling like myself again. I still tire easily but at present am so grateful for being able to enjoy life. This forum helped me a lot during all of my days when I was so discouraged.

Congrats on your 15k, that's amazing! I can barely walk to the bathroom at this stage without needing a lie down after!

I had 20 wonderful years of remission. Hang in there. It gets better.

My 15 year old son started remicade in January and is now in remission. He is eating pizza almost once a week now and pretty much anything else. He tries to eat healthy most of the time but is probably about 80/20.
I hope it works as well for you.
