something is really wrong..

So I have a colonscopy tomorrow and did magnesium prep. I didn't eat for 3 days and i ate a ton hrs before I had to start. Usually it works immediately but this time it took hrs for it to work and now I have stomach pain and feel constipated. Is this normal?

I have not heard of that happening before. Maybe it's a stricture? I would prolly call my doctor on-call and let him know. Then again, I have only ever had one colonoscopy so far.

I really hope you're okay. Good luck!

Just to clarify..you didn't eat for 3 days and then you ate right before you had to do the prep? Why would you do that? I may have read your post wrong (and I apologize if I did), but it usually takes a day to process food whether you're taking the prep or not. I would think that undigested food would hurt like a bugger coming out with the prep!!! For me, I stop eating about 16 hrs before I start the prep so that I don't have that much to get through my system.

Again, sorry if I misunderstood your post...

Last time I did prep for a scope it didn't go through right away either. I took the Go-Lytle. Wound up vomiting some of it up after some intense stomach cramps. I think what happened is that it took too long for the prep to go through and everything started backing up which of course would cause pain and eventually vomiting. Strictures can also cause this effect (mine wasn't one though). If you're concerned you can always contact your doctor or even the on call ER doc by calling the hospital if possible to see if its normal or an emergency.

Edit: Indeed Nyx. I never eat the day of prep.
