I have suddenly been burdened with immense joint pain... most in my knees, elbows, and ankles. I understand this is associated with crohn's disease because of the inflammation.. but I was wondering what you guys do to sooth it? My doctor recommended daily ibuprofen... as you guys probably are aware, that just doesn't quite cut it.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

Have you tried massage therapy? I don't have joint pain, but massage works for so many things. Just tossing that put there..

I have Crohns related Arthritis and Fibromyalgia, and have just finished a course of hydrotherapy.
I found the warm water and exercise soothing, even after just a half hour session. It may be worth asking to be referred to physio and seeing if there is that facility. There is less pressure moving joints in water.
Also it may be worth asking for your pain relief to be reviewed. I cannot take Ibuprofen for any length of time because of the Crohns.
Hope that helps

Aw! Hydrotherapy, I bet that's amazing. I don't have fibro or joint issues yet:). I do have a fractured hip. Does massage help or hinder?

Hang in there Cyspro90! We will get you some good advice from others. I will ask around for sure tomorrow. I love icy hot and bengay but since I don't have anything solid.

I will check in with you tomorrow.

I find that massage does help. I feel I can move a bit easier when i have had one.
How is your hip, it sounds very painful?

My hip is fine! This was before any of this , but thanks.
So, cyspo90 I hope you are OK. There are amazing use as here. Hydrotherapy sounds amazing! Then, massage oh and the heated blanket or pad.
Let us know. Hoping some ideas are new and helpful!

Hydrotherapy DOES sound amazing! I guess the closest home treatment would be a warm epsom salt bath.

I take Extra Strength Tylenol and occasionally wear a ThermaCare patch at the site of pain while I am out and about at work or wherever.

I have heard of (and recently received from a friend) lidocaine patches which treat the pain on site instead of digesting the pain med through the stomach...going to talk to my doc before using them though and see if it is a safe treatment for localized pain since crohnies can't handle certain pain meds.

Good luck finding something

Jaime likes to get in a really hot bath when she has joint pain, she uses heat patches and hot water bottles too x

You said as you guys are probably aware ibuprofen doesn't quite cut it. Just to be sure, you know you can't take that right? I mean I hope that is what you meant by "doesn't quite cut it". Ibuprofen will tear your crohnie guts up as will aspirin.
Before I was diagnosed I took two advil every morning for a sore shoulder, it put me into the worst flare I ever had, which at one point I had joint pain so bad I could not even get out of my car. What cured the joint pain was getting tyhe flare under control with prednisone. You might be in a flare if you have bad joint pain so maybe talk to your GI.

Good luck!
