Had surgery on 12th and the largest of my scars feels a wee bit sore.. like when I move ill get a pain and feels hurty. No signs of infection or anything just wondered how long itll take to heal over. I have dissolvable stitches and one hanging out of the bottom eurgh. I get really cringed out by scars and things can barely touch it lol.

Its still really early days, I always left mine alone, just check for infection.
The thing is you cant see whats happening under the scar. Once my stitches were gone and the scabby bits healed I started using bio oil, that stuff is a god send. My scars are flat and faded x

It's still really fresh but see if your doctor is ok with you using some kind of oil or cream on it. I used Mederma to eliminate the look of the scar but didn't use this till several weeks after. I don't think you need that right now but maybe cocoa butter or Vitamin E to assist with healing.

That seems right by my experience. I had a hysterectomy that left me with a seven inch vertical scar-I didn't have dissolvable stitches though, I had staples that were removed a week later. The bottom part of the scar stayed sore for three months, and took the longest to heal, too. Are you taking warm showers? My doctor recommended allowing the warm water to run down (not directly hit) the sore area, and using Dial antibacterial body wash on a pouf and squeezing out the suds above the scar just to keep it clean. I hope this helps, sending hugs!

Since your not even 2 weeks out of surgery, don't put anything on it without your doctor advising you to. The area is going to be sensitive for a while, there may even be nerve damage to the area. If you were given an abdominal binder after surgery, put that on and don't take it off unless you are showering. The tightness of the binder will take the stress off of your incision and after a few days of not being pulled on it may feel better. Hope you get relief soon!

Bio oil is fantastic I,ve had a lot of hand, arm surgery and it really helps to reduce scarring and keeps skin supple if you know what I mean.

Thanks everyone! Im not going to put anything on it until the scabs are gone and all looks healed over. The annoying thing is when i move funny I get horrid shooting pain in the scar hoping this goes soon!

Scars heal from the inside out, and so the scar tissue inside will occasionally "pull" and give you a sharp pain. For me this went on for several years after the surgery-the doctor said it is normal.

If you have any abdominal binding you can try wearing that and see if it helps, it's super uncomfortable, I know. I bought a light granny style old fashioned girdles and wore them day and night for three months, IDK maybe this will help.

I don't have anything like that as it was only laparoscopic lol.. the scar is only about 3-5cm long im just being a wuss lol!

Other than this though im feeling okay so need to stop moaning ay!

I wanted to add that your incision is going to hurt more than expected because it was done laproscopicly. Because they did such a large involved surgery out of a small area, your muscles and skin got pulled around a lot more than it would with open surgery. Its one of the downsides to laproscopic surgery, but the benefits outweigh the bad stuff I think

Hey Soph, hope you're recovering well.

Sorry to go off topic, but did you carry on with infliximab prior to your surgery? And did they say you'll be carrying on?

Hiya Marx yeh im feeling okay! I had my last Infliximab a few days before the op and My next infusion is in August. To my knowledge i Will be carrying on and I am going to push for it to carry on as I need some sort of maintenance med and i cannot take any Thiuprines so Aza is out the window! Why do you ask?? Hope all is well with you??

Glad to hear! I was asking because I'm in a similar situation. I'm currently on infliximab, and my surgeon agreed that I should be cut up. Only thing is, my next dose is next week and I've heard that most surgeons don't operate until the infliximab is out of your system (so after about 8 weeks), and I really don't want my op to be delayed any longer (even though I haven't got a date yet). I'm also on pred and aza.

Marx- Every doctor has their own preference on whether or not they operate with biologics and steroids in the system. Some doctors would rather fight infection than inflammation. Without going into detail, I was on Humira in 2010 when I had a routine surgery, and I am still facing complications TODAY. Ultimately, its your choice, you have to decide what is best for you, not the doctor. If you want to stay on biologics and your surgeon will operate, then go for it. I hope all works out in the end and you feel better soon!

I had surgery just before Easter and my main scar isn't healed. It was laproscopic so the scar is small, but the two other incisions are just scars now, but the main one I'm still having to cover up with plasters because it's oozing blood and pus (in small amounts though). I don't remember taking this long to heal after other operations, but I saw the surgeon for a check up a couple of weeks ago and he said it looked fine. It doesn't hurt at all though.

Thanks afidz! Yeah that makes sense, infection over inflammation, because my surgeon refused to operate on me a while back cos I was so inflamed. Sorry to hear that you've still got problems. I think ideally I'd come off it and just carry on with the aza. He said he'll call me before I have my dose next week so we'll see. My GI wants me to carry on but I'll tell him I don't want to.

I still get pain in my bum now 8 weeks post op and stomach hoping will go away real soon. I've also got a little hole in my bum scar  not sure whether it'll need a stitch or is it supposed to be like that so it looks normal or is it so that it can drain? I'm going to see surgeon 22nd.
