Hi

My son has complained of throat thing for a few days. Says it feels like something is stuck. On checking he has a white patch near tonsils. Doc says its not tonsilitis or oral thrush. To keep an eye on it and recheck next week. anyone had experience of this? He is on azathioprine and pentasa. Thanks

Yes I had that for about 6 months or so. When I would take a pill it would feel like it got stuck, I would have to eat a bit of something. I comes and goes depending on if I'm in a flair or not.

I had that happen a lot and saw an ENT (Ears, Nose, and Throat specialist) about it. I often had other symptoms like body aches or general malaise etc. Sometimes I'd test positive for strep yet more often then not I wouldn't test positive for anything. Antibiotics never cleared it up and it always went away on its own after about a week or so. My ENT said it would be best to have my tonsils removed and since I had them removed I haven't gotten sick again. For some people the tonsils can be toxic because the crypts to the tonsils contain debris causing bacteria to build up causing infections that don't respond to antibiotics. For many the best course of action may be to have the tonsils removed.

If your son has already had his tonsils removed then I'd bring it up with the GI and possibly still seek out an ENT to see what they think the cause may be.

My daughter had white patches on her tonsils and we were told tonsillitis. We weren't given antibiotic though since there was no pus and it went away after a week or so.

Sorry this is happening. Is it possible that the meds are getting caught in the tonsils and dissolving there causing an ulcer :( ?

Still sounds like crypt debris. Crypt debris from the tonsils also comes out making you feel the need to swallow a lot. Sometimes it can be pushed out. It can take a while to build back up creating the same issue over and over again.
