Hello, im 21 years old, ive had my stoma reversal on november 27th 2015, so its about 1 month and a half from now. Im feeling super well and wondering if i could start doing sports, like hockey and skateboarding? or is there any risk to doing that?? Thank you.

I've had my ileostomy since I was 19. The only sport I gave up was rugby.
When I play hockey or softball I wear a protective guard over my stoma.
Confirm with the doctor but I can't see any reason not to continue with sports after your reversal.

Hi Ralph, personally I think that I would leave it for a while longer yet. As it takes up to 12mths for you to heal internally. I suggest you check with your doctor before you do to much to soon just to be on the safe. Best wishes 💕

My 21 year old son also hates missing his sports, particularly hockey. But, I'm with mandyk - I'd wait a bit more before starting back with sports that involve contact or injuries. And, I'd check with your surgeon first as well.

After being away from sports for a couple of months, you probably have to build up some strength and endurance, maybe you can start with some easier activities - swimming, weights, etc. and, while you build up your strength/endurance, you can give your body a bit more time to heal.

The last thing you want to do is take one step forward and two back! ;)

Thank you for your great replies everyone, i have an appointment with my gastroenterologist in a week, i will ask her all my questions and concerns :)

You are welcome Ralf. Just try n take it gently for a while. Tesscorm is right with the gentle exercise, swimming is a really good start. As she says 1step forward n 1step back is not what you need happening. Take care n best wishes 💕
