Hi all

Currently in hospital having steroid infusions. I was wondering if anyone knows whether these will have the same side effects as prednisolone. Ie: weight gain/steroid face etc.
I'm dreading it if that is the case!

Was a long time ago for me, but I remember having the full moon face when I got home from the hospital. The other effects showed up later. I doubt you'll gain weight in the hospital, and the skin acne usually clears up first before getting worse. Remember with steroids the side effects take longer to go away the longer you've been on them, but they do go away. And when you get home, you'll be feeling much better and you'll probably be on a quick taper schedule anyways. Hope your feeling better soon!

Hey Gabi,

My son is one of those for which oral steroids produced no side effects however IV steroids did but it didn't occur until his third course (in a 6 week period). He developed the steroid munchies and a bit of a moon face but his facial oedema quickly subsided once he reverted back to the oral Pred. I do feel though that Matt is the exception than the rule when it comes to the common side effects of steroids and those that apply to oral Pred also apply to IV.

Good luck!

Hey guys.
Yeah oral steroids caused me a full on moon face but I was on them quite a while. I will hopefully be on the IV Steroids for less time. Which I'm hoping causes less side effects. The moon face especially gets me down.
How long was it after you guys came off of the IV steroids that the face started to / went down?

Hi GEC,

I only had the steroid infusions for one week (every 3 hours) and I went straight onto a 9 week course of oral steroids after the infusions so my side effects were prolonged because of that, have you been a given a possible time frame for how long you'll be on the IV steroids?

The moon face and acne were particularly bad then, but they did go away as the Pred left my system :)

I am now off of the IV and on to oral steroids. Thankfully. I hope I can come off them fairly quickly as I hate the side effects.
So far I've had an increase in appetite and slight ballooning of the face, and some hair loss has started. But hopefully it'll be okay and all be worth it in the end!
