Has anyone had to have a revision of there stoma. My stoma seems to be leaning more and more to the left. I'm now having trouble keeping my wafer from leaking. I have tried convex wafers, barrier rings, paste. I've used half of a ring to try and stand it up better as suggested by my ostomy nurse. I was getting 4 days between changes. Now I'm lucky if I get 1. Saturday it was so bad I had to change 4 times. Finally went back to the Hollister 1 piece with paste and that is what is getting me as long as I am.

I had a peristomal abscess that was to the right of my stoma and my surgeon said he believes that is what pushed the stoma to the left. As the swelling has gone down from that my stoma has leaned over more to the left which in turn has caused my problems. When I last seen my surgeon in May he asked if I was having problems with leaks then as if he knew at some point there would be a problem. He said he never liked how my stoma looked and said it may need to be revised at some point. Called his office today and talked with his nurse. She discussed it with him and she said he told her he expected this and is going to see me in clinic next Tuesday.

I know he must be thinking of revising my stoma. I am wondering if anyone here has been through this surgery and is there a hospital stay or just outpatient. He told me the last time I saw him this is something he can do all from the outside without having to open me.

Sorry Dukeis,
I have not had anything like that. My surgeon and Stoma nurse are both watching my Stoma, as they don't really like its placement or how inverted it is, but so far so good. From discussions with the Stoma nurse, it would be anything from a 'pull through'- sounds awkward, or an open surgery.
