Hey guys,

Just been having pretty awful flare up. Been on mainly a liquid only diet for about week now except for first thing in the morning when i have to take my pills with food to try and help my insides settle down a bit.

Well that seems to have worked, yet im experiencing some really loud and uncomfortable grumbling noises coming from my stomach, like there is liquid or gas build up trying to move around inside me. And come night time when i try to go to sleep becomes unbearable if i try and lie on one side for more than 20 minutes at the max.

Have been able to pass small amounts when i go to the toilet but this would be due to the fact im barely eating, Am still able to pass wind occasionally. Tummy seems quiet bloated and distended though and spent most of last night and this morning throwing up what seemed to be just bile.

Its becoming rather annoying as i havnt had a decent sleep in about 3 weeks now.
Im too scared to eat incase that makes things worse, am due to see my speacialist tommorow which i am very pleased about. BUT ...... was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and can offer some advice.

I need sleep :(

Oh Sammas, you are not alone....I'm glad you are seeing your specialist tomorrow.
Everyone here has discussed the loud grumblings of our stomachs. We lovingly refer to it as the Crohn's alien. It is usually so loud because of narrowing from the disease
...I have had many episodes of vomiting bile. They occurred because I was becoming obstructed. I needed surgery in 2008. You may be having a ton of inflammation that is causing you to be obstructed. If this happens again, please seek treatment at an emergency room. It's not worth risking your bowel perforating. I hope you get things sorted out. Please keep us updated. I hope you get to feeling better.:)

Hi Sammas, Sorry to hear you are having a rough time - the no sleep is a nightmare isn't it!?

The only part of your experience I can comment on is the grumbling. I have it regularly and it's not all in the same spot (IMP mentioned the narrowing). I have a stricture at the ileum and all my grumbling feels like it is actually coming from my large bowel which is unaffected by Crohns. It gets so loud sometimes that it actually wakes me up. But I have no pain at all associated with it, in fact I can't really feel anything at all. I expect it is some degree of gas but I have noticed I fart less since it started?!
My Gi said it was perfectly acceptable and not to worry about it, so I shall stick with that until if/when it starts causing problems!
Glad you have an appointment tomorow and hope things settle down soon!

My grumbly tumbly sometimes sounds like an asthmatic elephant playing a tuba hooked up to a Marshall amplifier. Sort of comes with the territory as far as I'm concerned.

Do get it checked out though.

I know what you mean!
I go through the same exact thing that you described. I wish I could get a decent night sleep too. :(
At least my boyfriend can go to sleep to my horrible bowel noises.

Freddy kruger . . another name for the grumbling lol

:poo: hi, my girlfriends in the prcoess of being diagnosed a lot of the drs think its chrons disease she has had many tests now but they still want more to get a concrete answer it is chrons. Her stomach makes a racket with rumbling noise sumtimes they are so weird i have to ask her what that noise was because it sounds like some type of animal growl lol. I know that she is in a lot of pain everyday and it is getting worse due to her getting severvly constipated so easily she is not allowed any type of painkiller not that they help much however she is really frustratd now. To lighten the mood lol we tend to call the 'thing' in her stomach freddy krueger because he haunts her at night not letting her sleep, stabbing her from the inside and then it got really bad to the point where he's there during the day as well not letting her sleep lol so freddy it is! Sometimes when hes grumbling away u can ask it a question like go away freddy please ur hurting me? and it will just growl short and deep like NO! lol gets kinda funny sumtimes, shes gotta laff sumtimes or sh would constantly be unhappi thank god for her sense of humour. anyways i hope ur grumbling noises are sorted by your consultant xxxx

In my experience, grumbling bowels is either food passing through strictures in the bowel where food has to be pushed harder than normal to get through and once it goes through, then you hear the noises; or gas. I've just been treated for bacteria overgrowth that was giving me bad gas causing noises and once I started taking antibiotics, the noises were reduced by 95%.

I use to have noises all the time prior my resection last year. I had noises for 8+ years. After the resection where the most suffered bowel was removed (4ft all together), the noises were all gone. It was incredible. And I was also able to eat like a horse because food could get through easier.

That's interesting about the gas. I have noticed that since getting Crohn's I have a LOT of rumbling a LOT of the time, but I hardly ever seem to fart when i used to be a big time farter! I wonder if it's just gas being trapped and moving around.
I'm not sure about the narrowing part as my rumbles feel like thye are in the large bowel and my narrowing is in the small one.
My useless GI said it is normal for skinny people to be able to hear their bowels moving around. Well, how come I never had it before!!! It doesn;t hurt but it wakes me up at night and frightens the cat!

I think that excuse is stupid too....skinny people can hear their bowels :angry-banghead: . I have always been thin. I never heard noises until spring of 99 after a bad flareup. I suspect that flareup produced enough scaring to start rumblings.
