Stool Study Question

My new GI ordered a stool study checking for:
Blood
Clostridium Difficile Toxin
Giardial Antigen
OCP
Wright Strain

I did the blood work this morning and got the collection materials and instructions from the hospital today.

I'm curious about something. The instructions say to eat a balanced diet with fiber, fruits and veggies. (now this is a general instruction sheet that they give to everyone) My question is should I wait until next weekend to do it and truly eat a well balance diet (WHICH WILL MAKE ME SICK), or do I just do it during the week eating what I can normally eat during the week (one meal of chicken and potatoes)?

Is it better to enhance the symptoms for these tests or does it not matter? If I eat as the instructions say, then the cup will be filled with whole veggies and blood.

I just want to do what's best to help me get to some answers.

All of my collections were to be done ASAP. I got the materials(a "hat" to go on and a bottle with a little scooper on the cap) I was just told to go in the hat and then scoop it up and take it back in by the end of the day. Granted I was rather sick at the point and no matter what I did the bottle wound up with whole foods and blood.

The second time I was in the hospital and during the night they asked me to try and go in the hat...I feel bad for the person testing that as all there was in it was bloody mucous. I think I even noticed the shock when they grabbed it that morning :S I felt gross that entire hospital stay...

Anyway I think it's suitable to go ahead and do it now or during the week and bring it back. If you change your diet it could alter the tests to much resulting in a different treatment option...sort of a scewed veiw of how you really are

I don't disagree with you there. I guess that's the question I was trying to answer for my self. How am I really.

I guess there's no point in adding pain to the mix if it's not necessary.

Thanks for your help. I have to do it over 3 days, so I guess I'll start tomorrow.

I've never changed my diet for stuff like that. I don't have the time first off, and I cant justify giving myself added pain, to in reality alter the outcome of the test. There's a reason we don't eat certain things, if all of a sudden we have too, of course our BM's will change, therefore technically making the results innaccurate.

Must have been a generic handout, all my stool samples were to be done within a day or two, as quick as possible. But that is a dumb handout! That's like telling you to screw up your sample so it doesn't properly represent what you have been passing.
