Just got back from the hospital, had an adverse reaction to asacol. dr said to stop taking. a little scared, am i going to get sick again if i just stop taking it like that. i am still taking 40mg of prednisone. what is going to happen?

Hi Donna, don't worry, alot of people have reactions to meds, and I see you are on 40mg of Prednisone, that alone should help keep your symptoms at bay. Asacol is a milder drug. When you taper, most likely your symptoms will come back, and therefore your Gi or doctor should put you on something else. There are others, try not to worry ok. :hang:

I have been on Pentasa (sister drug) and stopped cold turkey...nothing. It is the Prednisone you can't stop cold turkey.

What a relief, thank you soo much. I can't actually see the gi until tomorrow because yesterday was fourth of july and i guess they take today as a holiday too. soo hopefully i'll be ok.

Yeah, you don't need to taper asacol.
The 40 mg of pred should hold you over until you can start taking something else.
