Can someone tell me what symptoms they had when they had a stricture I'm worried I may have one.

I've been going to the toilet heaps this morning with small bits of ribbon like stool and then when I push its like I'm straninh then get rumblings and cramps but nothing much comes out then other times it looks like bloody bits of mucus like I'm pushing through something have a bit of pain here and there arfound the abdomen

My GI is on holidays its summer here in Australia and most people are still away

I would think you have at least inflammation in the rectal area - I get the same thing. It is normally accompanied (for me) by bloating in the abdomen, frequently a shortness of breath as things push up on the lungs. The effect of a stricture can depend alot on where it is located.

Best med that has been prescribed for me is called proctofoam - you , ummm, "inject" it into your backside. It has an anti-inflammatory effect that for me really works.

Aside from that, try not to push - my experience is that it makes it worse. Increase fluids, exercise and trying to relax when having a movement seem to help me a bit. In my case though, I needed the proctofoam as well.

You could have some narrowing and pencil like is common for a stricture. I did have those symptoms but turned out I had a bug/virus. Most people get alot of heavy gas and pain, I would refrain from hard to chew foods. Another tell sign if you are about to have an obstruction is get someone to listen to your stomach, no movement is never good. I would see a doctor if you start to vomit. Sorry not much help.

Pencil like poo can be a sign also high pitched noises can indicate a partial obstruction accompanied by strong cramps before a movement and unable to pass gas. Nausea after eating can also indicate a partial obstruction. Vomitting like pen said and absent sounds from the abdomen are never a good sign as that could indicate a full obstruction. When I had a ft long stricture in my terminal ileum that was quite severe I had pencil like stools but didn't suffer to much crampy pain and never had blood or mucus, however it eventually caused an abscess and perforation and required surgery. A small bowel series is required to look at the extent of stricture and then a treatment plan. Goodluck

I puked after almost everything I ate, I was constantly nauseous and was having severe pain. My stools were either pencil thin or just complete liquid. Pain was the number one thing that told me I had a stricture though.

hmm not having much pain but then again I haven't really pood much lately I might take a laxative and see what happens

Laxatives are probably not a good idea unless done under a doctor's supervision. If you are obstructing and you take one, you could do serious physical damage. You would want something to soften and lubricate stools, but not induce a movement. At least speak to a pharmacist, and make sure they know entirely what your symptoms are.

yeah i dunno anymore now they're moving but still no poo and have to strain in the toilet but guts are noisy as and i can feel that the poo is trying to move but feels like something is blocking it i'm having heaps of rumbling like an upset stomach when this happens and i might go like 5 times within 30 mins and get a small flat blob of poo

I was like that for about a fortnight a week ago felt awful, swollen tummy rumbling tum really strong cramps but nothing. I took some movical and then went the following day a mixture between c&d. so far all back to normal (well normal for me!!). If it reoccurs i'm going to mention it to the surgeon as he might want to check for a stricture.

I mangaed some small pices today but heaps of motions with straining now have aces and pains all over the abdoment and on the left side and don't feel empty and have a massive headache and tired oh so tired
