Sulfasalazine

I've started on two tabs a day of 500mg of Sulfasalazine. It's been about five days since my first dose. First day I took it, I threw up. The next few days, the nausea came and went. Now, I'm basically having flu-like symptoms? I have a scratchy throat and a cough, stuffy head and sinuses, feeling very weak and tired. Is this a normal side effect? Or should I talk to my doctor? I see her again in less than a month so I'm thinking I'll just keep taking the medicine until then to see if anything improves.

Any of you ever tried sulfasalazine? Let me know what you think.

I would report these symptoms to the doctor and not wait any longer. I have taken this medication in the past with no side effects. Let us know how it goes.

Late night update: i just woke up from a lengthy nap and am running a fever of 100.7°. I was going to wait until my next appointment to talk with my doctor but I'm going to call asap in the morning and see what I need to do. I suppose maybe I have a sulfa alergy. I've been researching quite a bit on sulfasalazine.

I hoped I could continue giving this medicine a try, but I took one of my tabs today and have only gotten worse since. Let's hope I find what works for me soon! Will update after I've spoken with my doctor.

Called my doctor and explained my symptoms. She believes they're unrelated to the medicine, and told me to keep taking it. So hopefully I'm just sick.

I'll keep trying this medicine but if I continue to get worse, I'll talk to her at my next appointment about trying something else.

Sulfasalazine was my first medication I took when I first got diagnosed. I remember having the same symptoms when I began taking it. But, I'd never taken medication like this before either and it's possible that the reason for this was that I was SO SICK that my body was reacting to anything different than it was used to.

For me it took a few days to get used to this new drug and then the symptoms slowly went away. I hope this will be the case for you too. Hang in there, we're here for you!!!
