I am struggling with the swollen belly that comes with CD...it has been about a year now that it has been around, at times so obnoxious I feel like I must look pregnant. I am a faithful probiotic and natural supplement user but have not seem to find the balance that will work to make it go away...will it go away? I try to watch my diet (I am on a blood type diet), stress and do yoga but starting to think, this is it...break out the frumpy/big clothes...

Anybody have some good ideas that work for them? Thanks:ysmile:

I too suffer with bloating. I try to have a cup of hot herbal or fruit tea after a meal (apparently the warmth helps with digestion). Also some foods will make me more bloated than others- particularly vegetables. Massaging the belly can help to release some of the gas.

I mention the bloating to my GI every time I go, but that's all the advice I've managed to get out of them!

I get bloating as well but is usually gone by morning (I must be deflating in my sleep :p) as I don't notice excessive gas during the time where I'm awake. For me it doesn't matter what I eat, I bloat with any old thing but its obviously food related as I don't bloat at all if I eat nothing at all but one can't live that way of course. All I can really suggest is asking your GI what they think you could do besides the probiotics.

This is my first post! I came on here originaly to research other's bloating. I bloat up and look pregnant all the time and like you "Crabby" I deflate overnight. It's so painful when this occurs. It's never from eating or drinking any trigger foods or beverages. I don't know what to do when this happends or keep it from happening and it hurts so so bad, anyone have advice for settingling it down? I'll try the tea and I've had my fiance rub my belly but that doesn't seem to help. I'd appreciate any feedback. ~Thank you all~ .... Sincerely, Helpless...

Oh Lizzard so glad to hear from you! The swollen belly is the most aggravating symptom of crohns I have been experiencing. I have changed GI doctors and also visited a naturopathic for a year and this is what I can gather...with crohns we are susceptible to growing yeast and other bacteria in our guts quicker than the normal Joe. I have been taking aloe Vera juice every other day; this is a distiller liquid with no taste, can be found at the vitamin shoppe.
I have also successfully managed the swollen belly with a 'green machine' shake every morning. This Is half banana, 1/2cup pineapple, large leaf of kale, handful of spinach and a teaspoon of organic minced ginger. Mix, purify and then liquify in blender. You only taste the fruit, it is good, makes your skin glowing and the ginger is wonderful for the stomach. I have also benefited fro the blood type diet in those foods to avoid and those that work best. I have also heard of a supplement to assist with the over/rapid growth of yeast in stomachs and am going to also try that... It's called Candicid Forte available on www.Healthandvitalitycenter.com.

Hang in there and don't be afraid to try things to help figure out what will work for you. I have been swollen free from day to day but still struggle at times...you are NOT alone!

So happy you joined :)

Yeah, I get a big belly all the time whether its from crohn's or that weird unknown endocrine issue I'm having. At any rate, mine also goes flat by morning. I find sticking to a FODMAP diet works. However, the diet is very restrictive and so I have a hard time adhering to it. Meat and veggies (except broccoli) seems to reduce symptoms until I eat fruit.

Sometimes I'm like, woohoo I gained weight! and then I realize its just that my abdomen is just distended from all the digested food (or the lack thereof). Makes me sad. lol

Spearmint tea helps with bloating for me, as does some gentle fiber, like pumpkin puree. Not sure by your name but if you are a women, it could be a fibroid or some female issue that needs addressing; that happened to me as well.

Hi, Have you thought you may be fructose or lactose intolerant? This causes terrible bloating. Fructose is in so many food groups now... think corn syrup, apples, pears. I did a breath hydrogen test to find this out.

Good luck ... hugs, Linda:kiss:

I have UC and have this problem allll the time! I deflate at night time too, but it's normally a loud process before i fall asleep :(
Hot packs help a bit, but yet to find something that stops it happening.
I hate walking around all day feeling like a balloon!

I've just started experiencing abdominal swelling (within a few hours) in the last few weeks. I wake up with a flat stomach and after 2 cups of coffee appear swollen and pregnant-hard and distended. I'm taking Pentasa, Vit B and D, Probiotics, and was diagnosed with CD 2 years ago. I'm a nurse and believe this is all from an immune response to foods and vaccines.
My hope is to stay in remission and find a cure.

I also get a very swollen belly from gas. It's only a problem for me when I work in the office... I work from home most days, so I am free to pas as much gas as a like! But when I'm in the office, I don't have that luxury. As the day goes on my stomach gets bigger and bigger... (even though I make frequent trips to the bathroom!) I've found that GasX helps a lot.
