Hey everyone,
So I went camping this weekend and got a piece of rusted metal stuck in my leg somehow and I didn't know about it for a few days until this morning when i pulled it out. Is it a good idea that I go get a tetanus shot cause I don't remember getting one in the passed 10 years and can I even get it cause I am on Aza and there might be a weird interaction that could take place.
I made an appointment with my doctor for tomorrow just to make sure. Should I even phone my GI to see or what?

Thanks if anyone has any input to this. :)

Contrary to popular belief, rust does not cause tetanus. It's soil that contains the deadly bacteria Clostridium tetani. "It is the dirt on the nail, not the rust, that carries the risk for tetanus." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001640/ Although granted if you were out in the woods chances are the piece of metal was in the dirt somewhere. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

I see no warning of possible interactions with any medications or illnesses when you get the active tetanus immunization.

So my doctor checked my history and it turns out I got one back in grade 9 and it's good for 10 years so I'm good to go.

Hey Zal, late to this and you obviously already have it sorted but hey, I will say...Go get the tetanus shot!!!

never heard of any wierd reactions that could take place - I've had boosters (and yes, it IS a good idea to get a booster!) without any problem while on various meds - remicade, 6-MP etc.....
