Well, things seem to be on the move quite quickly now after wot seems like a lifetime waiting for a diagnosis. The dreaded Crohns diagnosis.
Diagnosed last Thursday and put on Asacol. After a conversation with my specialist nurse today, I have to go and collect 9 weeks worth of Prednisolone and Calcium Tablets and to continue with the Asacol. The dosage of Prednisolone is 40mg per day. I don't know if this is alot but the nurse said that I was having a high dosage as there are large areas of 'disease' to try to get under control. They also suspect I have Crohns in my small bowel, stomach, oesophagus and mouth(already diagnosed in my large bowel). Hopefully they will do the 'pill cam' rather than more invasive tests.
Still not sure where my emotions are with it all, I just know that I hurt like hell, am sh***ing myself daily and have no appetite.
Surely things can only get better.
Am hoping u guys can assure me of this. xxxxxxx

Good luck with the pred, it normally kicks in after a few days so hopefully you'll be feeling better soon!

Pred can have some side effects but not everyone gets them so don't worry too much. But if you don't feel yourself for any reason, rest assured it'll be the pred. Most of us here have a love/hate relationship with it- we love the way it provides relief but hate the side effects!

It will get better! But then it will get worse! But hey it will get better again, so is the life. Now that you have things identified it won't go unchecked anymore so your symptoms will improve but your disease will most likely worsen as well. Don't be afraid of the medications or the surgery you have a rare disease it's not going to be fun, but there are treatments and since it's a disease without a cure the more things you change in your lifestyle the better you will feel. Keep us updated on how things go.

I am so sorry that your received a Crohn's dx. If we can take a positive out of this, it would be that now that you know what you are dealing with, you can work on treating it and hopefully getting it into remission. As you can tell by this forum, Crohn's is not as rare as one might think. You will find a lot of support here.
40 mg of Prednisone is a a pretty high dose to start with but you won't stay there for long. They will probably start weaning you down in a week or two. You can't just stop taking it - you have to go off it slowly so it sounds like your doctor is looking at a 9 week treatment in total. Let's hope that helps to settle everything down. Prednisone is a b**ch and I for one do not have a love/hate relationship with it. I have a hate/hate relationship! But a lot of people have great success with this drug. Good luck and keep us posted.
