Hi everyone, am new to this group. Have had Crohns Disease for 27 yrs. Aged 31, I had a temporary Colostomy for 3 months The following year I had a total colectomy & was left with an Ileostomy. I'm currently experiencing my 3rd rectovaginal fistula.
I wasn't managed very well by the doctor who did the Colostomy & the Fistulotomy. He made no attempt to close up the fistulotmy & as a result I have a huge gaping hole running parallel to my vagina. Also, when he performed the Fistulotomy he cut through the Sphinctre muscles causing 2nd degree damage. I had to be surgically sealed up when they did the Ileostomy.

The 2nd (four years ago) Fistula was treated with anti biotics & hot salt baths twice a day.It was a huge relief when it burst!
The 3rd Fistula/Abscess was discovered the other day. It's only today while researching vaginal rectal fistulas that I discovered that the Fistulotomy could have been closed up! :ymad:
Anyway, I've been put on to my old friend Flagyl & another medication called Staphylex. Meant to go to Hospital on Xmas Eve if the swelling hasn't gone down, but my doctor didn't even examine me. So I've decided that I"ll call for a Locum Dr, who will do a home visit & get his opinion as to whether I should go to hospital Kattjovi

Wow, I would be frustrated too! Are you switching doctors? Is the fistulotomy still open? Would it be to late to correct it if it isn't? I hope you start getting some relief soon, it sounds like you have been through a lot

Good news is that I managed to reduce the size of the abscess, too icky to explain, but it now means that the antibiotics are having a chance to work on the infection going on inside me. So I was able to spend Xmas with my family!!! :soledance:
On 2nd round of antibiotics, so hopefully it will clear up. Just keeping fingers crossed that I don;t get an actual Crohns Flare Up. I got too much to look forward to this year, I can't be sick!!!!! :ywow:
My doctor knows that he is not knowledgeable enough to deal with all my conditions, (I also had a neck fusion, which didn't work & I've been left with Chronic Pain in both arms), but there are no other doctors close by for me to get to & being on a disability pension I can't afford to see a specialist. That's one reason why I have to wait until things get really bad, then I go straight to Accident & Emergency at the hospital.
Thanks for your reply, hope you had a great Xmas & have a happy new year tonite!:D
