My son (12) has been in a flare for a couple months with no relief. He started Methotrexate two weeks ago (first injection only being a half dose) and Friday he had his full dose. While I have read of the symptoms, I believe what he is experiencing is active crohns related. He is having some blood in his stools and he says his butthole hurts worse than his stomach. I am getting him to drink to stay hydrated but anything he eats he throws up. He is barely nibbling crackers and applesauce. He won't take any medicine because afraid of throwing up.

Now, every time he has a bowel movement he dry heaves every time, with only spit coming up because he has no food in him. He is straining so hard and hurting. I called the doctor on call yesterday to see if I should take him to the hospital. She said not much can be done on the weekend but to call our doc on Monday.

Would anyone know of why the throwing up every time he poops? I feel so bad for him and am almost at my wits end, but know we need to stay strong. I don't believe he has caught the flu bug. What would you do?

Take him to the ER.
They can at least keep him hydrated and give him zofran.
Also rule out an obstruction which is very serious .
Did you talk to the on call ped or on call Gi ?

DS had alot of vomiting with bm's . Our Gi provided zofran to keep at home just in case .
Does he have a fever or pain ?
Have him rate pAin scale ( 1-10) and location.
This gives the doctors a better idea.
Does he drink formula ( ensure , boost , peptamen etc..)?
If so switch to a more liquid diet until you can get in to see your Gi if you can .

Again not a doc just mommy opinion but I would take my kid in if he could nt hold any thing down.
In fact our oncall was going to have us bring DS in for iv when he had mouth ulcers just to keep him hydrated .
Good luck

I agree he definitely needs seen soon, whether it be emergency or try get his GI to see him urgently. I would say it's either the pain causing the nausea, or as mentioned above, something could be obstructed. If he is pushing to get the poo out and it is stuck, it can only try to come out upwards, so he's then retching. Hope he gets seen soon and feels better.
