Okay, so I was recently dx with microscopic colitis after years of issues and I've been on entocort for about a month. I've developed a lot of pain on my tongue and I'm not sure if it's from the meds or a related health issue. It feels like I've burnt my tongue on the tip of it and the sides hurt as well. Where it hurts on the end there are little red bumps and on the sides it kind of looks a bit white in spots and other areas its like there are little craters (nothing like a canker). I usually have cankers or mouth sores, but I've never had an issue with my tongue. I won't see my GI until August and I'm away on vacation for a month so any suggestions for home remedies or something I can pick up from the pharmacy? This is driving me crazy!!!!!!

Hi there,
Try buying folic acid tabs from the chemist and take one a day. Tip of the tongue sore and white spots can be folic acid deficiency, or B12 too. You will also have cracks in the corner of your lips! I know, because this happened to me. Enjoy your holiday.:rosette1::sun::rosette1:

Yes, I also get canker sores when I flare.

Sore tongue does not appear to be a side effect of Entocort. It DOES however say that a swollen tongue is considered a severe side effect that should be reported to your doctor:

Have you informed your doctor of this? what other medications are you taking? do you have any other health issues besides microscopic colitis?

A deficiency could be a possibility as well but you should make sure your doctor is aware of any odd side effects regardless because you could have additional underlying conditions caused by your colitis. Your mouth is also a part of your digestive tract so its always a good idea to let your GI and dentist know of your mouth conditions as well.

Feel better soon!

I have microscopic colitis also, and would develop tongue sores similar to how you describe. What I found worked for me to get rid of the sores is avoiding eggs and chicken. I haven't seen the sores since. I guess I should mention that I avoid grains such as wheat too.

Gah! My list of things I can eat is getting smaller and smaller. I am celiac, have severe oral allergy syndrome, anaphylactically allergic to apples and yellow food dye, avoiding soy and cannot tolerate fibre for the life of me right now (steamed vegs are even a problem). So I have been living off of rice/quinoa, potatoes, berries, some diary, chicken, eggs, and some red meat (plus lots of vit). Basically as much soft and bland foods as I can. Time to see a dietitian I think....

I'm the same way, tend to eat the same bland fiber free foods over and over. It took a few days for the sores to go away, but a few months avoidance of eggs and chicken, plus others for the D to more or less stop. Still felt worn down most days though. Began a week ago avoiding all bird as I was eating turkey frequently. Rather oddly avoiding turkey has the gut grumpy once again. On the plus side I have good energy. Bizarreness!

Good luck with the dietician.
