Spoke to my normal GP today and he said the problems with my joints could be down to arthritis connected to crohns. I've just started to take new steriods and now they have prescribed tramadol to ease the pain (of my tummy and the joints)
I go back to see my consultant in two weeks so Im hoping it works as I cant even wear my engagement ring at the moment. It started in my wrists, then moved to my fingers. Then I felt it in my knees and then ankles...and today my elbow joints lol?

Im only 26 and I feel like an old woman. Ive had bowel problems for 11 years and only now are they truely taking me seriously...I have had big flares and mini flares but this one is the worst its been.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else is on tramadol and how they find it? They have said if I dont respond to that then its morphine type things?

Ive got two small children so I dont want to be whacked out on it lol!xx

Hi,
Sorry to hear you are having problems with joint pain it is awful.
I take tramadol occasionally when the pain gets really bad as he drug makes me feel sick and really tired I can't function normally when taking it but it does make me care less about the pain I wouldn't say it gets rid of it, just spaces me out.
I have had steroid injections for arthritis and have been started on sulfasalazine and this has helped me more than just pain killers. Have the Dr's suggested any other treatment plans for you? x

hiya :)

Im not due to see them properly for another 1 and a half weeks, so they will talk about it then. They said the steriods im on should help? xxx

Tramadol gives me insomnia. But if you are on steroids, you might already be experiencing difficulty sleeping. It does work for moderate pain for me, I just have to be careful not to take it within 4-6 hours of trying to sleep.

My boyfriend was on tramadol for about half a year, it worked really well for him. The only problem was he found it quite addicting, but that might just be his own personality and nothing to do with the drug itself, so I wouldn't worry. It helped him so much, hope it can do the same for you :)

hey I've been taking tramadol for 3 yeas i don't have crohns but have ibs my son has crons he's only 6 he takes codiene when his pain is bad . i find they when i make it my bowels become sluggish so if your the opposite end of constipation it may help you Ty to only the tabs when u really need them as they ate addictive I've been trying to come of them for 4 months i have Arthurites in my spine and important only 30 so i no how u felt when u say u felt like an old lady i use a stick when important really badly hobby wants me to get a mobility shooter . i think so he can go out and ride it for fun lol. when Lewis takes codine which in theory is one down from tram he gets a dry moth like me and it can make u a bit itchy it does pas though so if it helps take it nothing worse than being in pain mynlewis is in pain everyday ere just trying to get hospital med right so he can get back to being a kid . hope u feel better soon hun.xx

Hello
I am in the same boat you are with joint pain and I'm 23. My knees wrists and fingers were the worst. I talked to my GI about my joint pain because I couldn't function, he prescribed me tramadol because he said its not as harsh on a Crohn's tummy and its good for joint pain. I personally didn't see a difference, it almost made me feel worse but in different ways, but I have noticed that lately I get all the bad side effects of medicines I take, but thats just me. It is a narcotic so you can become addicted, but I think its worth a try until you make it to the doctor.
Hope you start feeling better soon!

I've tried tramadol is the past and it worked on the joint pain, but would also constipate me. My doctor suggested I try nucynta and it works well for me without the constipation. I only take them once a day at most so I can't say how they will work for someone who needs them more often.

HI, I know this is an old post but I wanted to vent my experiences on tramadol. For pain it works great for me, helps me sleep and I feel happy on it. There is some dizziness and confusion but that goes away. Now that's just the good part. Thought tramadol would be easy to get off of and without withdrawls. It was not. I experienced the 2nd day off, insominia beyond belief, brain zaps and a feeling that I wanted to shake apart. Weird thoughts - Seemed to me if I would break my arms and leg bones that I would feel better. I know - weird. The "restless leg syndrome" happened to every joint. Some intense yoga would help. And now I think I can say I have experienced a panic attack. Not fun. So now I am coming off little by little - 1/2 tablet for a week, then 1/4 tablet for a week. I do not look forward to stopping. Just wanted to let you guys know that the withdraws are terrible but they are workable. The withdraw normally started just as I fell asleep, then bang - up all night. They would last about 3 nights and then start tapering off. I will not take more than 1 tablet a week for pain relief. Most doctors say there are no withdraws from this drug - I differ. Good luck to anyone taking this medication. It worked for me but I was not informed of the withdraws and actually thought it was my Imuran causing this.

Joe had the same experience with tramadol withdrawals, he was absolutely unbearable from lack of sleep and the mood swings he had that were only intensified by the lack of sleep. I've never known anyone personally who hasn't had withdrawals from tramadol.
