Who here takes the transdermal version of LDN? I hear it's better because we have a tough time absorbing.

How does transdermal work? Do you just put it on the stomach as a cream? Or does the pharmacy provide a medicated patch?

Has anyone tried both?

Hello nogutsnoglory, My 16 year old daughter is on 4.5 mg of TD LDN...I was told it would be a more effective route for dd because of intestinal inflammation and absorption issues(we get our LDN from Skip's Pharmacy..Skip himself had many long conversations about the effectiveness of TD LDN..I was nervous about not starting Liv on capsules). Lab work after 12 weeks looked good, fecal calprotectin down a bit, however, my daughter had rectal bleeding for a week at the end of July, and she landed back on steroids (9mg Entocort). She is scheduled for colonoscopy/endoscopy on Aug. 28th. If scope comes back with poor results...GE will insist on methotrexate. If results are good, I will probably switch Liv to LDN capsule, as she has gained weight while on transdermal form and is obviously absorbing nutrients. MD has been patient with us trying LDN, but made me promise that if she shows signs of inflammation and active disease, we will agree to go back to traditional meds. Scared to risk my child's health-she has pretty severe CD-resection at age 13, and history of thyroid cancer last year while taking humira. If it was me, it would be an easier choice..I would try to stick it out with the LDN for as long as possible, but too afraid to take chances with 16 year old daughter. I have seen her get terribly ill with this horrid disease, and it sends chills up and down my spine just thinking about it. Will not let her get that sick again!
Liv uses the TD LDN on the inner aspect of her forearm, close to the wrist area where the skin is thin. Cream is dispensed in a 3ml syringe..1ml= 4.5mg of LDN. Skips does not supply LDN in a patch..rate of absorption has been questioned via patch route. Good Luck! Kim

Thanks for letting me know how she applies the cream. Do you have to cover it or just let it fully dry? LDN application typically occurs before bed time and I want to make sure the LDN goes into my blood stream and not my sheets!

Best of luck with her tests. I certainly hope she will have reduced signs of inflammation and you can continue LDN and avoid the regular meds.

Thanks for the well wishes, we have fingers and toes crossed for good results!
Liv will rub the cream in about 30 minutes before climbing into bed to allow thorough drying time. The cream that is used with the LDN is emu oil, which we have found to absorb pretty quickly...not very greasy either. She does not cover the area after application.
Good Luck with LDN...I hope you have great success with it! Keep us posted!! Kim
