Hey all
again I have been lame and not been on the forum for ages apologies for this. I had to have surgery last week they found 4 strictures and were hVing to remove my large bowel. And give me a stoma. I didn't come on here before as was freaking myself out as u can imagine just spoke to warren (hungry) and bobby.

Anyways surgery was a week ago the outcome wax better then suspected I had a total colectomy but my surgeon managed to save a little of my large vowel so could join to my small bowel which means no stoma. Obviously still major surgery and has knocked me for 6 to be honest. I haven't had surgery for ten years and forgot how shit recovery was.

Am home now and am pleased to be back but everyday is a struggle at moment. Hard to move, tired all the time, bloated, general rough feeling, can't stand straight and just scared. Has anyone had a total colectomy? If so how do u manage the trapped wind it is killing me and stopping me from sleeping. Any advice on anything to do with this surgery would be fab

sorry for depressing email feeling proper sorry for myself today and feel like j will never get better even though I know of course I will

thanks for listening
Jo xx

hey there! I don't really have any advice from you, but wanted to send warm and well wishes your way!! I hope you have a quick recovery.

Hi Jo I too had surgery last week and am at home recovering. I had a small bowel resection so can't comment on your surgery but I totally know were your coming from with the trapped wind pain I was in so much pain with it last week the surgeon sent me for an xray which showed gas build up in the abdomen (outside the bowel) with fluid collection which was pressing on the diaphragm and giving me awful shoulder tip pain, the only position I could get comfy in was leaning slightly forward resting on something and thats the way I stood for about a week!!! sleeping was the worst but is now easing. I seem to get it now after eating but find breathing ex's help and walking around and of course lots of painkillers. I hope you get better soon and it passes quickly

Hi Jo,
Hope you feel better soon. I had my big surgery back in April and recovery was so hard. But, then time goes on and you'll recover. It's now over 7 months for me and I'm so much better than pre-surgery.

So, try to imagine a short few months from now when this will all be a memory! Good luck on your recovery and take it easy on yourself.

Hey Alice
Thanks for reply, knowing its not just me does help, as you can't help but freak out thinking something is wrong. managed to speak to my consultant and said totally normal as my bowel readjusting etc. Roll on recovery. Hope your feeling much better. Sleeping is the killer for me at mo too.

Hey Joe, glad to hear your back to yourself, I know I will get there, just need to take my time and not rush things

xx

Just one more question. Could u guys take anything for trapped wind? Like rennie or windez type things?? X

mine has finally settled yippee, but i walked walked and walked to help get rid of it, got the staples out today also yippee :)

I had a total collectomy about five years ago...I have a jpouch now...Recovery was hard for me...Took me a long time to get better cause I was so sick before. But, I am so glad to get that sick part out of me...I did not realize how sick I had been. Walking will help move the air out...Good luck!! Sue

I have had a few surgeries this year and recovery was very hard for me too. Much harder on my body than I ever would have imagined in fact. There were times when I felt like I would never be my old self again.
However, it has been two months since my last surgery and I feel great (a problem here or there, but I do still have Crohns after all).
Just give it a little time and don’t push yourself. Hope you are back to your old self soon!

Hi Jo,

It's until now I read your message.

What I take for the trapped wind is a natural supplement called Papaya Mint that helps against flatulences. It's from Nature's Sunshine Natural supplements.

It helps a lot after surgery when I take it for the trapped wind and the awful pain it gave me.

I hope it helps.

Hugs

hey Jo,
I had a surgery 5 months ago and my life is beautiful. I can do anything and everything.
hang in there and give yourself time to heal.
