I am 26 have 2 great kids and I am done. I knew I was done before my Crohn's diagnosis and now I am certain that I am done having babies as this body and mind cannot handle it again.

Has anyone here had a tubal after your Crohn's diagnosis? What other forms of birth control have you all used?

I am currently on the depo shot and haven't had to take one since my daignosis and I started all the meds and to be honest I am due for one in may and starting to freak out about it. I normal do my own shot but this time I don't think I can do it. I don't want to do it this time. Any advice would be great and honestly I am open to any options available.

Ps. My hubby was originally supposed to get a vasectomy but has used up all of his vacation time taking care of me while I have been sick and won't get any more untill next year. :(

I haven't had any kids yet (so no tubal) and have been on the pill for 15 years now. Started taking Ortho Cyclen then Ortho Tri Cyclen and am now on Junel. I've had 2 flares and a resection since starting the pill and have never had any problems with it (no pregnancies).

I take birth control pills. I skip the inactive week so I never have a period, which helps with the Crohn's. I'm 32 and done having kids, too. (both of mine are adopted)

Well, just an update. I sat down with my shot this morning and proceeded to freak out... just couldn't get through the injection this time. So I sat there in tears while my hubby looked at me like I was crazy and now I am off to the dr tomorrow to talk about other options.

Anyone have any experience with the mirena?

My husband had a vasectomy, so there wasn't a problem, but he died while I was still having periods and was at that dangerous age when "accidental" pregnancies often happen. A couple of years later my Crohns was really playing up and I had to have a resection. Because I didn't know what the future would bring, I decided to investigate having my tubes tied at the same time .

Well, it created numbers of raised eyebrows, comments like "you are going in for serious, life-saving surgery and you are talking about... !" and swift handing on of the query up the chain from doctor to GI to surgeon. As I said to the surgeon, I was going to have the anaesthetic and be opened up anyway and he was going to be fossicking around in that area, so why not take a few extra moments to tie my tubes??

He grudgingly ageed, but warned me that he might forget because he was there to do serious surgery (said with serious face on). So, on the trolley on the way to theatre, I grabbed the Registrar, who was going to be attending, and told him to remind the surgeon under pain of death or something worse.

Later I was told that the first thing that I said when coming out of the anaesthetic was: "Did he tie my tubes?" :eek2:

Fortunately, the answer was "Yes" and I've never had a moment's trouble from it.

Sorry for the long-winded answer - but your question reminded me.

Thank you for your story Susan! I had an appointment to talk to my OBGYN a couple of weeks ago and while there I decided that I wanted to move forward with the tubal. I have 2 beautiful children and other issues that would complicate a pregnancy as well and I am just done. Should God ever choose to bless our family with more children they will come from other parents.

I actually have a preop appointment on the 21st to go get it done and I couldn't be more excited! I just don't want to worry about having another baby I can't afford or take care of and I don't want to worry about how all these meds with affect it. I will be so relieved when it is done!
