I have been diagnosed with UC for nearly 4 years now and have finally just gone into remission, which I am so pleased about.
Recently though I have been getting a very painful rash on my face. It started on my chin then moved to around my nose and now is on my eyelids. It feels like my face is no fire. I went to my GP today and she prescribed Cortic-DS and told me that it is Dermatitis that is associated with my UC.
I have been reading different forums and there are mixed reviews about using a cortisone cream.
I am a chef and find that my face flares mostly when I am at work in the hot kitchen. I have never had a problem before and all of a sudden (at 42yrs of age) within a couple of weeks I have Dermatitis????
Just wondering if anyone else suffers from this and what they do for relief?

You didn't mention what kind of medications you are currently on, but is it possible the dermatitis is a reaction from the heat in the kitchen with your medication? When I took Pentasa I would get dermatitis any time I was overly hot. High potency zinc oxide cream was the only thing that helped me. Desitin Maximum Strength is what I use but sparingly. I am very fair so with a bit of work I'm able to work it in and cover it with mineral makeup. I wash my face in regular unscented Dove and that seems to help as well. Try eliminating any heavy chemicals from what you wash your hair in as well, since the rash seems to follow where your hair would touch your skin.

I'm also wondering if maybe a visit to a dermatologist is in order. They could take a sample of skin cells and give you a better diagnosis. I'm a bit hesitant to use steroid cream on anything the doctor isn't 100% sure of what it is. You might have an infection of some sort that needs clearing up. I've had a few of these unusual skin infections during my treatment for Crohn's and sometimes it's hard to figure out what exactly the underlying cause is, that's for sure. Sending healing thoughts! :D

I was just wondering if some aloe might help? Put some on when you get out of the kitchen? It seems like it would at least help cool your skin down.
