Ok so im new to this site but found it refreshing wish i had known about this before. Diagnosed in 2008 and still learning allot about myself. I think the first step to getting out of this rut we cal flair up is to stay positive and remember at one point our bodies were perfectly fine. I strongly believe you can live a normal life if you just take the steps to get back in gear. I am currently having a flair up and have a soar throat/head cold which is really shitty. I have gotten to a point were i could eat anything and do anything and only go twice a day and then like any fool I fell off my program and all went to hell. So Im going to document my bounce back to greatness. I currently take 4 lialda which is pretty strong daily . My doctor says i have a sever case of UC. I am currently bleeding and feel like ass but like i said above trying to stay positive. I got this disease during a very stressful time in my life . I had been working 7 days a week on multiple real estate condo development . acting as the sole loan officer for a 400+ client pipeline. money was good but stress was high . I decided towards the end of my projects that i would have my wisdom teeth pulled and so I did . A week after the operation I developed some sever headaches. I returned to oral surgeon and he said I most likely had an infection so prescribed amoxacillin. I remember taking this a Tylenol and some emergency . the next day blood blood blood and some more blood. ME being in denial I took 6 weeks before i actually checked in to a hospital . by then i had lost 55 lbs from 250lbs kinda fat to 195lbs skelator in six weeks . Not good !!! I'm the hospital I remember thinking to my self man none of my friends came to visit me except one . That was shitty . It was something to remember for the future that we are in this alone allot of times no matter how much support we have . I remember someone from work coming by and showing some commission checks that were absurd but i would trade them in in a minute to get rid of this condition. I was on liquid iv diet.(lactated ringers with a pic line. Spelling suck w/e. I was torturing myself watching the food channel for the full 8 days i was there ,couldn't wait to eat anything . fast forward 4 years. I have come with rules that helped me stay in remission for a year and half.
Bananas are your friend i like them towards the beginning of ripeness not too sweet.
get a bike i think the bike can do wonders for everyone. I ride 8 miles every morning and i think that alone is the secret to staying flair free.
try not to stress out remember everything is small stuff.
enjoy every minute on this earth .
smoke some sativa s when needed they help with the appetite.
if your on prednisone one of my doctors helped me get off in a great way . when weening off one your down to 5 stagger it one day go5 next 10 then 5 then 10 then 5 then 2.5 then 5 then 2.5 then eventually nothing. you need to exercise through out the whole process.
My understanding is that our immune systems have an overabundance of white blood cells. If you don't give you body something to do like heel muscles it tends to get bored and attack your colon !!! call me crazy but this is my theory . so here it goes Im going to try to get back to remission . Hopefully you will too . ps I know its not easy and your condition could most likely be worse. but again at one point hopefully you didnt have this and our bodies just are asking for something its our job to figure it out.

Food that i keep away from
chocolate
liquor( beer is good when in remission )
red sauce

ok so today is day two of this rebirth . feeling alot better head cold is going away and today idnt have to take a nap . im actually feeling great. the biking has really made a difference. still trying to refigure out my diet as what was good before like peanut butter isnt so good as of now

Glad you're beginning to feel better! I hope it continues into full remission!! Good Luck!

I'm so with you on the exercise jpd. Barry's Bootcamp is my addiction. It's such a tough workout though, so you definitely need to feel 100% in order to get through it! Plus, with our increased risk of colon cancer, doing anything that can bring that risk back down is an added bonus.

updates /thanks/ and some food

Tesscorm thanks for the warm words !!!Johnny C I did the Pednisone about 8 cycles try that tapper off routine i did. i did it last time and it worked great. I also attribute allot of my now recovery to the bananas i eat like 3 though out the day two days ago and the next day felt allot better. tonight Im going to re introduce some micro nutrients into the mix. gonna start light with the cabbage cooked here how i do it.
