Hi,

I'm new to this forum. My doctors have been testing me for GI diseases for the past year. I haven't responded to any IBS treatments and some tests recently showed ulcers and inflammation in my ileum. Still awaiting for them to confirm diagnosis but believed to have Crohn's.

I recently was hospitalized for a week for c diff. I hadn't been on antibiotics or near any hospitals in over a year, and they're saying I got c diff from my undiagnosed Crohn's. I'm about to be off antibiotics today but still have some scary c diff symptoms and am so afraid the c diff will come back again since the "Crohn's" isn't treated.

Any suggestions for getting rid of the c diff, aside from round 2 of antibiotics? My IBD specialist can't do any further Crohn's testing until my stomach is recovered enough from the c diff to handle it. What a nasty cycle! I really don't want to end up in the hospital again. Also completely unsure which symptoms are my usual ones and which are from the c diff, they both were almost identical.

xx,
C.

I had c diff 2 times. Flagyl helped the first time but c diff came back after one month. Second time I was again on Flagyl and also used a probiotic called Natren's Healthy Trinity. I belive taking this probiotic is what helped me with c diff.
Now, I take a probiotic everyday and also eat a SCD compliant cottage cheese
called "Friendship Farmer Cheese".

I am a bit confused as Crohns does not cause C-diff. C-diff is an infection that is usually ingested and when a person takes antibitoics for any reason, well this bacteria( spore) Clostridium difficile can over take the gut and cause severe diarrhea and pain. I can see that maybe since you have been having a lot of diarrhea that you somehow picked up the bacteria somewhere along the way and due to all the diarrhea you were having, that left your gut flora unbalanced and the C-diff took hold.

Did they treat you with oral Vancomycin? This is suppose to be better than flagyl actually. I agree, I think you need to be on a very strong probiotic with many strains of good floras as well as taking S bualrrdi ( over here it is called florator). It is a yeast type of probiotic that can help with C-diff. Taking this with high dose probiotics might help some.

I am so sorry you are sick with this and hope you lick this infection real soon....

I would echo what others said. Crohn's can't cause c-Dif and fecal transplants are very successful. It is not unusual to go for more than one round of antibiotics to treat this.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, my doctor started me on a probiotic and more antibiotics. I can only take flagyl because vanco caused my throat to close. They're considering a fecal transplant if a few more rounds of antibiotics doesn't help.

Yes, they think because I've been sick with crohn's that I was thrown off balance and got the c diff. I don't understand it, either. I just hope it goes away.

My son has Crohn's with C-diff, he does take the best probiotics. And now he is on Coconut, great for most. But he still can't seem to clear up the C-diff, so we are looking into the fecal transplant as the next option.

C-diff, if I'm not mistakin, overrides the other bacteria when you have Crohn's because you system is compromised anyway. Have you tried really good probiotics yet?
