Hi Everyone!
hope you're all doing ok?

I saw my consultant on 8th April and it went well, he approved Humira, Dr Bassi was the surgeon who found my Crohns and has looked after me for 5 years.
He told me to phone his secretary if I don't feel well, so I did, last week, and got an appt for today. My usual clinic is on Thursdays, so didn't think anything of it that it was Monday! Long story short, but I went to the wrong hospital! Absolutely bombed it to the other hospital, 50 miles an hour, half an hour late!
Anyway, beads of sweat on me fod, I was told Dr Bassi is in USA on study leave, and I can see Brian the nurse. I screamed the place down, hysterically.
So I got to see Dr Bassi's senior, Mr McLinton, a big burly Scot who doesn't suffer fools gladly! He said 'No Way are you having Humira' 'You are not serious enough!'
'You are not bleeding, you are not losing weight'
Bloody Big Booming Voice In Me Face!!!
So he's put me on Entocort for 2 months, and I have to go back in 8 weeks for review, he also said my joint pains are from the Pred withdrawal and gave me Codeine Phosphate.
He said Humira is last resort when all else has failed
So I didn't practice wot I preach, about being assertive and demanding, I left with my tail between my legs, cos he was so scary.
I'm ok with this, I will try the Entocort, and if it doesn't work, we'll think of something else.
So wish me luck, God is it gonna be back to insomnia, moon face and eating the entire contents of my kitchen? :depressed:
lotsa luv
Joan xxx

He SOUNDS scary!! if it makes you feel any better, I am a wuss and would probably have cried like a big baby. :)
I hope the entocort isn't as bad as the pred, but i would not know about any of that. Sorry you had a rough day.

I didn't have any of that when I was on entocort - actually no side effects at all. It didn't work for me though. Hopefully it works for you and you start to feel better.

Haha, Joan! That doctor sounds funny. My surgeon intimidated me when i was in the hospital the first time. He wasn't big and scary, but just very straight forward and not very much sense of humor. I was afraid to speak up too, so my husband had to when we didn't understand things!

I'm Entocort now for the second time, and I haven't experienced any moon face, munchies, etc. from it. It's very mild, but seems to be keeping me from cramping while I wait to hear about starting on Imuran. My weekly shots of Humira seem to be helping now too. :) Don't be scared of the Entocort. I think it will be better than the Pred and I hope it keeps your symptoms away too!

Thanks girls!
Reassuring to know, no side effects like Pred, couldn't go thro that again!

Chris!
This man was NOT Scotty from Star Trek, he was more like a Sasquash!!! or Sasquatch!! Both of em!

Hilarious!

Joan - I am so sorry! What do they consider "when all else fails???" Is there still a chance you will get to try the Humira when your doc returns from abroad?

You must have been justr crushed in addition to being scared of "Medkeeper Willie" the scary Scot.

I was on Entocort for a few months and found it to be very mild with none of the pred side effects.

Good luck - thinking of you and sending hugs - Amy

geeze.....sounds a little like one of the doctors I saw a few years ago - when I was told I wasn't sick enough for Remicade.....took 2 years of non-healing fistulas to finally get on it!...

Good luck with everything - hope the entocort works for you (I haven't had it myself).......

Lisa

Hey Joan, I have been on Entocort and it is very mild, no comparison to Prednisone at all. I am surprise the doc said you weren't bleeding, NOT all Crohnies bleed! Is there any way you can get an appt sooner with your reg doc when your doc is finished in the US? I would try and book it as soon as possible. :)

HA HA Yeah he was just like him!!!

Thanks everyone!
I will talk to Dr Bassi when he gets home, but I fear he's been undermined, cos the Big Burly Scot is his boss and senior. We'll see

I have been on entocort for over a year now and no side effects. Good luck and hope it helps!

well at least he didnt try and eat your baby!

Glad you got the Entocort at least. Maybe that is the best way to go anyhow.

So sorry you are not feeling well my friend. I hope that the endocort works wonders for you and that soon you will be more comfortable.

Thank you everyone

Maybe the Big burly Scot is a blessing in disguise, hey?
Maybe I don't need Humira?
Cos I feel better already after 2 days of Entocort! My joints and muscles aren't half as bad, BUT!
Guess what I've got now?
IMPETIGO!! WTF?
on me chin!
Off to the quacks again!
xx

Hey Joan, I am glad to hear that your are feeling better with the Entocort which has far milder side effects than Pred. Your post are so funny and colorful , one can imagine your experiences with this burly Scot, lol
Best wishes

Perhaps since you are such a sci fi fan you could come up with a story about a groups of explorers who come from a far away galaxy and are microscopic. The plot thickens as they plant a flag on your chin and settle in to rebuild their civilization.....

thanks for the compliment on the sig as well, it just seems to fit my life ad experiences well and sounds slightly more dignified than just a quote from Charlie Brown. :)
