Doctor surgery just called and I've to get Vitamin B12 Injections. I read somewhere that they can be very painful :shifty-t:. Was wondering if anyone could ease my mind and tell me the website was wrong ha

Thanks :)

Well I'm not going to lie, they sting a bit when they inject it in but it goes away quickly. It certainly doesn't hurt enough for me to be bothered about getting them done.

You shall be fine, don't worry!

Sorry but go in expecting a bit of pain, more a sting really. Are you having daily injections to start then going on to maintenance doses?

The reason B12 injections sting is because they are intramuscular. Like Iron injections, which I have in the Glutes (Buttocks) for Anaemia, the injections have to be done into muscle and not just a fold of skin or fatty tissue.

I had couple of B12 injections last year, around 8 I think, they were given on weekly bases but I never really found them helpful or I did not notice.
my Doctor insisted that I need to take them, and they were very easy and smooth (maybe im used to injections"how ironic").

Don't worry they should be base of cake, unless you fear needle!

peace.

Hi, I have had B12 injections every 10 weeks for the last 17 years- they do sting but they are great at perking you up!

Aw thanks guys. I'm not to sure how often i've to get them it was only the receptionist I spoke to. I got an injection in my stomach when I was in hospital to stop blood clots and that was so nippy! I'm ok with needles thankfully. Feel really sorry for people with Crohn's who are scared of them cos i'm never away from the flipping things. Well lets see hope I see a difference. See My GI doctor tmoz woohoo

Hi Kayleigh - I give myself a B12 injection once a month. Actually, my husband gives it to me in the back of the arm and I can hardly feel it at all.

The shot you get for blood clots in the hospital is about a billion times more painful, IMO.

Good luck! -Amy

I am with you Amy! Those blood clot shots are the worst!

I get the B12 shot once a month and how much it hurts seems to depend on which nurse gives it. Some are really great and I barely feel it, some are... not. I have had a couple times where it hurt for a couple days.

Hope they work for you. :)

Those nippy shots are heparin and my nurse said they are worse for thin people which I expect most Crohn's patients are. Dang but they hurt! Ice before and after helps.
