I know that all the Docs say you should drink 8 - 8oz glasses of water each day. In November 2013, I starting seeing a naturopath and she said it was imperative for me to drink lots of water with the D I was having.

Since then, I have been drinking 60-70 ounces of water every single day. Took a little while to get up to this amount but I truly believe I have not ended up severely dehydrated and in the ER so many times because I chose to try the water. It is easy to track the ounces with a bottle which I drink the 1.5 liter (which is about 50.7 ounces), then refill with filtered water where I can count the extra ounces.

I selected a brand that is low in alkaline. There are many bottled waters out there or filtered water is good.

Just thought I would share how I have kept hydrated and healthier through all of this mess we go through.

Good Luck!!

I think this is something that I have to do a much better job of.. In fact, I'm heading to get a giant bottle of water right this minute!

With severe diarrhea water isn't enough because it lacks electrolytes. Coconut water or Gatorade helps to replace the loss. If you can tolerate foods than bananas and salty goods are helpful to prevent dehydration.

I couldn't agree more Ali29. My son gets headaches, nausea, and fatigue if he doesn't drink enough water. Keeping hydrated makes a huge difference for him.

I can't agree more Nogustsnoglory - I'm one of those that cannot tolerate sugars or honey, etc. Sugar free causes me more D, so I'm severely limited to what I can drink. I drink green tea and water - pretty much nothing else.

Is there something else you know of that I can add to help the electrolytes?

Thanks so much!!!

Hi Dave,

I have not tried coconut water due to the carbs - thought it must be higher in sugars but looking at a few online - it looks like some are lower than others - I think I'll try it and see what happens. Thank you!

If fresh coconut is available in the market just buy them instead of trying it from online...a young green coconut ( by young I mean the one which only contains the water and not the white layer of cream inside) with only water is less in sugar and high in minerals that will help you in dehydration...it is an amazing quick drink that keep your stomach cool. Just don't go for the large ones as they have that creamy layer inside and has high sugar content which might end in acidity.

Maple water is supposed to also contain electrolytes. I know they are trying to make a dent in the coconut water market. I'm not sure how it compares and it's harder to find but it tastes better in my opinion.

Hello, good post! Great job on getting your fluids in. Dehydration can be serious. It can come on fast.
Some of the symptoms can even overlap a CD flare. Fatigue, cramps, dizziness, and nausea are a few.
I have found coconut water to be a great help. I have tried many different brands.Coco Libre coconut water has a great taste. The other I really like is Exotic Superfoods organic raw coconut water.
I try to drink enough water but it can be trying. Sports drinks are too harsh tasting for me. I recently tried Eternal water and it taste great. Your post is a good reminder to get fluids.

Cheers!
