Does anyone else feel fine when out in public like at a friends house/school but as soon as you come home your stomach starts to hurt and you are in the bathroom every half hour?

I spent the night at a friends house last night and was there for the majority of today and I felt fine, but as soon as I came home I had a snack and BOOM! I don't know if it is because my body 'knows' and is sparing me the embarrassment of having a bad stomach at school/public of if I just need a change of scenery or something.

Anyone else experience this?

:)

Yes! I thought I was the only one. When at college I would go out and go to classes and the gym and everything fine but once I got back to my apt I needed to run to the bathroom.

Also, When driving long distances like 5 hours or so I will not need to go at all but the second I step out of the car it hits me.

Same. I never mentioned this because there is no reasonable explanation I can think of, but when I go on vacation I have less issues with crohn's. I don't know why, and it makes no sense to me outside of pure coincidence, so I never mentioned it.

In the lead up to my resection surgery I always made it all the way home before vomiting. Never did it in the car even though 40 min drive but once home I had to run for the bathroom. It was almost every single night. Ick, I don't miss that at all.

I would love to be able to go out of the house and not have to poop...you guys are lucky that way...my poops follow me everywhere, they don't care if I'm standing at line ups (the DMV is the worst, no public toilets in their buildings) or if I'm trying to get anything done away from home I'm always haunted by my poops wanting out...usually at the most inconvient times.

As far as travelling (holidays and such) I've heard that can cause constipation for some, yet others will get "travellers diarrhea"...sheesh, if it's not one thing, it's another eh!

Yeah, I have noticed this. Strangely, it was the motivator for me to get my sorry inflamed butt back out into the real world. As mentioned in a couple other posts, for me it decided that it wouldn't give me any trouble at all for 8-10 hours out in a small boat fishing when the day before it was a trip to the washroom every 45 minutes. Really drove home the point that it was worth trying something before just assuming crohn's wasn't going to let me have fun. Hopefully it will cooperate on Saturday - starting a long two day drive of over 2000 km!
