Hi, I'm new. My husband suffers from crohns and was diagnoised in 1998. he is 52 and has been on numerious meds includ pred, metitrex, nothing has really helped. Jan had another colon and andosc and were advised it was at 97% active. and his specialist put him on imuran / azathioprine which made him extremely ill, with symtoms including fever, temps, low blood pressure, freq fainting (min 4 x day) and losing control of movements. although his specialist encouraged and urged him to continue with this med. we felt it best to his health and well being to cease it so yesterday we did.
I dont know if this was the right thing however I support my husbands decision and I can not bear to see him suffer like this and hope his specialist will understand also.
we revisit on 23rd feb so hopefully there are other alternatives that we have not yet exhuasted.

Welcome, Maria Tribe:

It sounds like your husband has had quite the time on Imuran! Sounds like you both made the best possible decision under such circumstances.

When Imuran stopped working for me (I didn't have any of the horrendous side effects your husband has experienced---Imuran just stopped being effective), I was placed on Remicade. Might be an idea to check out biologics such as Remicade and Humira since Imuran didn't work. You might want to check out the Remicade and Humira club threads since it has loads of really good information.

I hope that between now and the 23rd, the effects of Imuran leave your husband's system so that you can both begin to figure out what the next steps will be.

Wishing you both well.

Hi Maria
and welcome

I was allergic to Aza, horrible stuff! But everyone is different and there are also lots of success stories with this med.
Good luck with the appt, hope the docs find something more suitable for him.
lotsa luv

Hi, guys
thanks for the feedback.
is feeling a little better than last week but still got low blood pressure.
at the appt i asked about remicade and we filled out ness paperwork and he had a blood test to apply for Remicade from the goverment as its not on the PBS. all we have to do is wait and see. crossing fingers it is approved.

Thanks for yr feedback.
