Hey guys,
I have an opportunity to work with my father-in-law but I wouldn't be able to get insurance through him.

What can I do about insurance? Can you get individual insurance that covers pre-existing conditions?

We have individual family coverage through BCBS of SC. My husband had a pre-existing thyroid condition and as it had been ongoing and treated for several years prior to our obtaining this policy, it wasn't a problem. That's all I know about that.

I think (not sure) that as long as there isnt a lapse in coverage then you should be able to. Might be more expensive though

Yes, I aree with Becky. If you buy another plan within a certain time frame (usually 30-60 days) they'll still cover your condition. Though I'm not sure how it works with having Crohn's disease. I've heard from some that it's "impossible" to get an individual plan if you have Crohn's. But, I do not know from personal experience. Perhaps call a customer service rep for a couple insurance providers you are interested in. They should be able to help you with finding one.
