I am new to Crohn's and had my first major flare up this week and am searching for answers to my questions and to just know I am on a "correct" track for living with it, based on a holistic approach. I don't have a lot of faith in my GI Doc, he told me about the Crohn's by leaving me a message "you have Crohn's, I called in your Rx, see you in a month and call office if you have any questions." My Naturopath is awesome, but I am fearful, because when it comes to specific issues I feel like I should be talking to a Medical Doctor; such as, when I am having a flare up why does my hip hurt so much??? There seems to be a gap in my medical team, and I am fearful of getting a new GI Doc in case that's the way they all are, maybe I am just a skeptic and need to stay put. Any suggestions? And if you live in Des Moines, any recommendations for GI Docs???

Doctors aren't all the same. I've had several different GI's and one was completely awful while the others were very good. If you have any doubts, there's no harm in seeking another opinion. I wish I had done so sooner while I was seeing my bad doctor. I live on the east coast so no advice for a doctor. Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

Thank you effdee. I am trying not to be irrational in doc dumping. :) Just not sure if I am supposed to add an Internist into the mix or what, y'know? But if this is a lifelong disease I have to live with I would like to have a doctor that wants to educate me and support me...not just medicate me, y'know? Thank you very much!

Hi there, I see you are having doc problems and that is ok, not all doctors are created equal. An internist is more of a general, but Gi's are specific to IBD and Cancers. They are not up to date on diets, and how to teach you what you need to know, not an easy disease to figure out. Welcome!

In my opinion Doctors are really nothing more than mechanics for your body. These people are making money off of you for servicing you and your needs. This is a transaction. Much like any transaction, you should be an informed shopper and you should remember YOU ARE THE NUMBER ONE CONCERN, NOT THIS DOCTORS FEELINGS OR IF THEY LIKE YOU OR NOT, NONE OF THAT MATTERS! If they are doing a poor job...fire them ...find someone you can trust that answers your questions and addresses your concerns. That is part of why they get paid. Good Luck...keep in mind you are the most important part of the equation.

Thanks! I have an appoint with the Physician's Assistant tomorrow, will see what kind of vibe I get with that and go from there. Again, thanks for the support!

Met with the Physician's Assistant today and it went really well. Feeling a lot better about my direction.
