I have had crohns for several years. I am currently on humira- which works for the most part. However, I still get mild flare ups that cause slight abdominal pain during the night. I am looking to supplement with MM. I live in a state where it is legal, so that isn't a problem. My main concern is that I have no experience with MJ, and want to avoid detection at work. I know that it has a very pungent smell, so I would like to avoid that by not smoking (plus it's good for the lungs to keep them smoke free). I also don't want my behavior to be erratic or out of character, but there are so many strains out there, that it is hard to know where to start. Any suggestions? Where can I read about the most common strains. Are aall these strains available in edible fform so i can avoid smoking? Thanks.

I don't have much experience with MJ and strains, but I read quite a bit on it. It might be best to get some advice from someone that actually has experience with different strains, but I'll offer what I know.

Marijuana has two primary chemicals that affect the body: THC and CBD. Both treat inflammation, but a strain that has just as much or more CBD than THC is what you want. There's a group called CBD Crew that specializes in strains which fit this description. I've never been to a dispensary but I think they have descriptions of CBD:THC ratios on every strain. Don't take my word for it though.

As far as smoking vs. eating, I can say through experience that smoking is great for instant pain relief and increasing one's appetite, while edibles are good for actually targeting the symptoms directly, which smoking doesn't do nearly as well. However, I have read extensively on cannabis oil, which seems to be the downright most effective form for treating Crohn's and other illnesses. People have gone into remission with cannabis oil alone. There's a video on how to make it here:

I personally would like to see how putting the oil in acid-resistant capsules would affect the potency...but alas, I don't have any to experiment with.

No matter what you do, if you've never ingested marijuana before, you're going to have a low tolerance to its effects, and thus you will get high very easily. It's probably best to take doses when you don't plan on doing anything, like when you get off work, or way before you go to work. I'm talking several hours. On your days off, take it whenever you'd like; I know that user FrancisK took a whole week off of work so he could self-medicate with marijuana.

Hope I helped.

I don't have much experience with ibd but I do with mm because of an injury. All oil, hash and concentrates are super potent for me as a experienced mm user. For beginners I would recommend vaporizer maybe a handheld one if smoking is out of the question. I also recommended making your own edibles since you never know what's inside the venders product. As far as strains it's different for everyone. I stick to indica(body high rather than a cerebral high found in sativas) dominant strains which are used mostly for pain. Good luck and I hope it helps you.

Any strain can be made into edibles.Leafly is a good app. for cannabis strain information. In my experience dispensaries have a good selection but are high in price.Caregivers may not have the selection but are usually less expensive.

If you smoke, you will smell like cannabis.Vaping is more discreet.Edibles,oils,etc.are the easiest to be discreet with.I make cannabutter and use it for cookies.

Trying a small dose on a day you can be home and relax would be a good way to try edibles.Creating a safe situation where you can relax the first time you try MM will help with potential stress.

Since I can't predict the dose of each cookie precisely,I try one when I am at home to judge the potency.Than I know how many cookies are a dose.I am than able to benefit from the cannabis but not have that 'stoner' feeling.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Tried an edible last night and dosing seemed really good. Not too groggy afterward, and pretty good euphoria at peak.
