I have seen the term "flare" mentioned a number of times. Is the whole time the disease is active considered a flare? Thank you in advance for your responses!

I am afraid so, especially if your having alot of diarrhea and bleeding or blood in your stool. or mucus. What medications are you on? If you are then i would go see your doctor asap and tell him your symptoms and see if you can resolve the matter it's important you catch it early so it can be resolved early with the proper diet and medications. Keep to a low residue diet for now which will give your system time to rest. No Diary products and a low fiber diet

It is my daughter who was recently diagnosed with Crohn's. The doctors have referred to it as a flare, but I just wanted to clarify what that meant. Neither one of us was sure. Thank you for clarifying it for us! :)

Crohn's tends to cause periods of "flare ups" and periods of remission. A flare up is when the disease is most active and is causing issues. With proper diet and medication, you can calm the flare ups and force the disease to go back to a remissive or dormant state where it does not bother you as much.
