Just curious which is the best and safest to take for pain relief for headaches, and other pains that wont cause more problem with bowels than there is? My doc had me on extra strength liquid advil for occasional evere headaches before i knew I had Crohns...this may not be good?

I stick to paracetamol. I think cocodamol is fine possibly. If you look at the wiki pages there are a list of safe and unsafe drugs. Anything in the NSAID should be avoided.

Any reason why you are getting these headaches in the first place?

Plain Paracetamol , tramadol and codine were what Dr's gave me in hospital. Dont take anything with aspirin in it and dont take ibuprofen (Thats what the Doc's told me anyways) :)

Ditto above

and Bill you could ask your doc for 25mg of Amitriptyline. It's an anti depressant in very high doses, but in lower doses it's fab for headaches, neuralgia and joint pain etc.
It's good as an anti spas for cramps, and best of all, it knocks you out at bedtime!
It's been my Godsend, I love it!

I do happen to have amitriptylene from the last episodes...yes, damn good sleeping pill and eases the bowel discomfort...technicolor dreams too....
Headaches were stress related and eye overwork...

sorry to hijack thread, but can anyone give me advice on good analgesics, currently prescribed co-codamol 30/500, however this is not holding the pain for any length of time , currently on steriods as well 20mg, due to go back to see gp soon, any advice welcome cheers,,,,:( stuey

Same here, I was in hospital with several broken bones and that was what they gave me plus a morphine button.

The morphine did bung me up though.:frown:

I had to look up what paracetamol is, it turns out that is what they call acetaminophen in the UK. The one thing to worry about with this medication, whatever you call it, is that it is easy to overdose on it, as it is included in other combination medications such as cold medications and it can be toxic to your liver.

In Canada you can buy Tylenol#1 over the counter. You have to ask the pharmacist, but you dont need a prescription. Its only got a little bit of codeine compared to tylenol#3 but it can take the edge off when plain tylenol isnt cutting it.
