I just finished a book called "The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time" (I think that was the title anyway, I might be slightly off, don't have it here in front of me). It was pretty interesting, it was written in the point of view of an autistic teenager who decides to solve a mystery. I liked it, although it was a pretty short book. I finished it in about 2 days.

Now I've just started reading "The Devil in the White City." It's apparently a true story about a serial killer at the Chicago World's Fair in the late 1800's. It's pretty interesting so far. I just read that they're making a movie of it, starting Leo Dicaprio as the serial killer, so I want to hurry and finish the book before I find out any spoilers.

the last good ones I read were Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, Predictably Irrational by Dan Airely, and Be Ready When the Shit Goes Down by Forrest Griffin. They are all non-fiction.

I just finished the books in The Millenium Trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, and the Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) by Stieg Larsson.

All the books were amazing and now I'm wishing the author was still alive to write more thrillers, or that I hadn't read so greedily.

Just finished Lord of Chaos from The Wheel of Time series (book 6 of 12) by Robert Jordan.

I started reading for pleasure about 5 or so years ago. I also read the Dark Elf Trilogy and The Sword of Truth series. I'm interested in suggestions that are similar. I've tried reading The Lord of the Rings but its like forcing myself to read the Bible because its just sooooo boring at the beginning.

Great thread!

I just finished Heat Wave by "Richard Castle" (i.e., a ghostwriter). Am SUCH a fan of the TV show Castle, and I read lots of fluffy mysteries anyway (I'm known at the library as "the lady who signs out all those mysteries"), and it was a fun romp. :)

Me too!

Dusty. :)

I loved that dog in the night time book too. The last book I read was called 'The Reader' by a German called Gerhard Schlink or something like that. It was about a boy who reads to this older woman and falls in love. I liked it, but I'm not sure I 'got' all the cultural significance. It's supposed to be a modern classic, and I just thought it was a good book!

I loved the 'curious incident of the dog' too! I work with kids like him, oh so familiar!

I've just finished 'Dexter is Delicious' by Jeff Lindsay
You bet your life he is!
I've read them all, and I love the show too, he is gawjus!!

Most recent: "Red Hook Road" by Ayelet Waldman--excellent read; "Women, Food and God" by Geneen Roth--I like her advice (non-fiction); and I am currently reading "The Diviners" by Rick Moody, not what I was expecting, but is pretty good.

last book I read must have been the time travellers wife, great book (have read it twice) now onto Catch 22. Its been re-released by vintage books who have the habit of writing what the books story is and what it signifies at the start before the story begins .. as I found out with Brave New World. Sort of spoilt it knowing he ends up killing himself

I was just about to start a new post for this, but saw this one just in time. I read almost everything (Stephen King, rom-coms etc...love the Stephanie Plum series for example) and sometimes just want something to keep my mind occupied while on the loo!!! Any suggestions for my Kindle (for those of you who haven't got one, I highly recommend it! You can order new books and download them while doing a big D!!!) are more than welcome.

Cat-A-Tonic - I loved "Devil"...I lived in Chicago for 15 years and never heard of this guy...learned a lot of history as well....like Shredded Wheat!

Millennium series is awesome, Swedish movies of same are excellent as well.

Last book was "Life of Pi" very interesting....need to start a book discussion on that one. Now reading "Cutting for Stone"

Reading is my huge pleasure, escape from reality. I can't eat so I consume books!

Pet cemetary by Stephen King. It was recently published in Greek for the first time. I am a huge SK fan and I enjoyed every minute of the book.

the BFG at school - for some reason i simply cannot get into reading. i purchased god knows how many books over recent years for holidays and work trips, but after 2 or 3 pages i get bored. now i go for brain training games and puzzle type things on the DS or audio books of say only fools and horses on my ipod! "alright dave?!"

I just finished a book called "The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time"

I actually read that book also soon after it came out. I used to listen to the guy on NPR who read a book for 30 minutes a day. I'd only catch it occasionally but I'd get curious and have to read the book to find out what happened. I found my most recent favorite from that show as well, "The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint" by Brady Udall.

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty series by A. N. Roquelaure (aka Anne Rice).

"Backseat Saints" by Joshilyn Jackson, one of her best so far I think! I have read all her other books, "gods in Alabama", "The Girl who stopped Swimming" and "Between,Georgia". This one is about domestic violence, tough subject but handled very nicely.
Couple authors I have re-read recently: Jennifer Cruisie and Susan Elizabeth Phillips

I just finished Towers of Midnight (most recent release written by Brandon Sanderson to complete where Robert Jordan left off after his untimely death due to a rare disease). I assume crabby recognized the source of my name a long time ago :). Only 1.5 more years till I get to finish the series I started something like 12 years ago when I was a freshman in high school.

Taking a sidestep on this thread, I highly recommend people read The Way of Kings and the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson if you enjoy fantasy at all. It is some of the best written fantasy I have ever read...and I LOVE fantasy.

"Bad Blood" by John Sandford. I really like his books and enjoyed this one but felt I needed a shower after. It's about a child/adult sex ring in Minnesota.

Innocent Man by John Grisham. True story written like fiction it was quite good. Big Grisham fan, read pretty much all his books. On and actually now that I write that I just read a book called Black Hawk Down which was excellent about the US invasion of Somalia.

I'm not finished reading it yet but it's just pure awesome. The book is called EON.

Synopsis:
In the year 2000, a huge potato-shaped asteroid, nicknamed the Stone by Americans, appears in orbit around the earth. Exploration shows that it is divided into seven man-made, hollowed-out chambers, indicating that it had been inhabited. Scientists discover that it was built by Earth people, but in the far distant future, and that a nuclear war is imminent. It becomes crucial that theoretical mathematician Patricia Vasquez discover why the former habitants left and where they went. Although Eon is far too long, its story of futuristic cities and life forms stirs the imagination. Readers travel to worlds where humans may exist as memories in the City Memory Bank, corporeal representatives (ghosts) or incarnations. Other humanoid life forms also exist, and in an amazing array of shapes, from snake-like creatures to floating blobs. Bear's creativity provides a richness to an intricate, complex plot.

Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen. Read it and laughed until my kids and husband wanted to know what was so funny!

I just finished a book from a "Scrapbooking Mysteries" series. Love the cozy mysteries! Once in a while you find that the plot has been directly lifted from another series (pizza lovers mysteries, gardening mysteries, you name it), but when you find a good one, it's time settle in, turn on the fireplace, grab a hot chocolate, and read away!

The Curious Incident is on my "to read" list. I just started "On the Origin of Species..." by Charles Darwin and "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood.

I'm reading When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. I am so stuck on his books, I've read every one. Of course, I write paranormal romance, but love thrillers. Stephen King is tops as is Dean Koontz.

A Purpose Driven Life is an awesome read. I'm still trying to find some spiritual answers for this disease.

Currently reading 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' by Lionel Shriver - heavy going and rather sad, but a good read none the less.

My favourite ever has to be Harper Lee's 'To Kill A Mockingbird' - hated it at school, but can read it over and over now.
