What is the longest amount of time you were on prednisone and at what dosage? Did you have any lasting side effects? Thanks in advance for your responses!

This answer will freak you out, I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and they did things different then....they would NEVER do this now.....I was put on prednisone for just shy of 3 years @ 65 ml per day, every time my GI looks in my records he still says what the hell was he thinking..!

Wow!!!!! Did you have any lasting side effects from that? I know prednisone can affect bone density.

Don't remember the exact amount of time but it was over a year and over 50mg up to 75mg (kept upping the dose). Only lasting side effect was stretchmarks.

I have been on them for over 10 years, going up to 35 mg per day down to 5mg per day depending on what the consultant thinks !!!
The lower they go the worst I become, but am on 10 mg per day at the moment.

My daughter and I both have IBD. Her's is Crohn's and mine is indeterminate colitis. She developed stretch marks too while on prednisone. Did anything lighten them for you? She is currently trying Palmers Stretch Mark cream.

Thank you for your responses everyone. Do any of you have lasting side effects? I know Crabby mentioned stretch marks. Please keep the answers coming, it is very helpful!

I was on Pred for a few months. I was an insomniac, I used to go out to clubs until late and then go to school the next day!! I went a bit crazy because I'd been so ill and then BOOM the steroids suddenly gave me so much energy. I also developed a strange cleaning compulsion - the house was spotless, my Mum particularly enjoyed this side effect.

Wow nice to see I'm not the only one....well not nice, but I think you know what I mean.
I did receive long lasting side affects, the worst being osteoporosis in both my hips, getting worse by the year and stretch marks.....but I can live this those.
But I have to say despite the side affects it is a miracle drug.:)

Was on it from Feb - September 10. My moods were mental, I had so much more energy, ate tons and wasn't in pain anymore. So it was good!

I have been on pred since diagnosis in october 2010. Most of the time around 15-20mg.Never got below 10mg and currently back on high dose.
Worse thing is I can't be on alendronate or other bone protector because of gastroduodenal crohn's...I do worry about my bones because of this and very low BMI as well.

2 1/2 years on and off of varying dosages. Finally went on a low dose and a very slow taper. Had a very hard time getting off prednisone. Hope I do better with the Endocort.

7 months and the definitely made me feel better unfortunately they didn't help the damaged bowel as it was fibrosed so I had surgery.

I had 'roid rage' so very irritable and a bit tearful which isn't like me. I didn't notice much of a difference with appetite as I've always had a good one. Luckily I didn't suffer moon face or water retention.

It definitely affected me mentally more than physically luckily for my family I returned to normal after stopping them (after I recovered from the withdrawal symptoms - but that's another story lol).

I was diagnosed with crohns 3 weeks ago and have been on pred 40mg for 2 weeks and now i'm on 35 mg. I have to say....THIS **** IS CRAZY lol. I lost so much weight before my diagnosis, i was 39kg, right now im 47-48kg lol I have moon face coming along and really bad insomnia but it's amazing how much pred helps with making inflammation go away.

My longest on pred was last year for I think about 6 months. Don't remember any lasting side effects. But, I'm back on the pred again at 40mg and have been for a week now.
