Hi I need some advice PLEASE..
So quick history - recently diagnosed after Colonoscopy with severe Crohns in the terminal Ileum with some ulceration to the Colon. Currently taking Prednisolone, started at 40mg, gradually tapered to 25mg and all the symptoms came back with a vengeance so back up to 40mg again.

Now to the exciting part...
Over the last few days I've been feeling what can only be described as pressure in my lower abdomen and going down to my butt (like inside) at times it is painful but mainly just pressure. My poop has been Green (so it's going through my system too fast) and now it's pencil thin and It's scaring me. Also feel sick and been sick which I haven't had in a while.

Is this something I should be immediately worried about or can I afford to wait until my follow up appointment with my GI on the 25th June. Basically am I being paranoid.

Thanks x

Hi Sophie , there nothing to worry about just read this article i hope it helps.
The liver constantly secretes a bright green fluid called bile into the small intestine or it is stored in the gallbladder.

Bile is needed to absorb fats and fat soluble vitamins. It also helps to soften stools and is responsible for giving stools their characteristic brown color.

As bile makes its way through the intestines, it progressively changes color from green to yellow to brown, due to the action of bacteria in the large intestine on the bile salts.

Green stool often indicates that food has passed through the intestines faster than normal (called decreased bowel transit time), before it could be changed from green to brown.

Diarrhea decreases bowel transit time, so any condition that causes diarrhea can result in green stool.

Other causes of green stool include:

Laxative use
Antibiotic use
Medication side effects
Food poisoning
Celiac disease
Ulcerative colitis
Crohn's disease
Malabsorption
Irritable bowel syndrome
Bacterial overgrowth
Infectious diarrhea - especially salmonella and giardia
Traveler's diarrhea

Best wishes.

Not to alarm you, but ribbon like poo and the pressure you are speaking of can point to strictures. Which can be very dangerous. Pred is great, but it also can make you feel better than you really are. And hide symptoms. How long ago was your colonoscopy, and did they note the strictures at that time?

Thank you for your quick replies!
Terriernut .. Well on the colonoscopy report there is no mention of any stricture but at the time the doctor said to me that the procedure took double the amount of time and was a 'challenge' because he couldn't get the scope through so i don't know if this could mean there was some sort of blockage??! its quite painful now though, Im really hot and bothered and getting d. what other signs are there of stricture and when do i say enough is enough and see a doctor?? This disease is not fun!!

Thanks again for replying!! x

Well, strictures can be caused by scar tissue, etc. Frankly, you could be a medical emergency in a big hurry. Like I was.

If you are having pain *any, vomiting, fever, night sweats, hot flushes, nausea or ANY of these, I suggest you get yourself seen ASAP. The trouble with strictures, or blockages is a perforated bowel. Which is what happened to me. I almost died...twice.

Nothing to be taken lightly, at all!!!

Terriernut Im so sorry to hear you were that ill! Hope your okay now.
Im quite concerned now, i have taken Lomotil which has stopped the d but like you said its just masking symptoms. I think i will see how i feel in the morning and either get on to grab a doc or take a trip to a and e. Thank you so much for your advice i have no clue when it comes to this disease and what is "normal" and what needs emergency care. Its good to know there is somewhere i can ask!! x

Just hoping you are OK!!! I am sorry, I didnt mention your green poo, I thought that was the least of your worries to be honest. Dont mess with this disease is what is important. If you have a fever or any of the other symtoms, I mentioned, please be seen to immediatly.

Yeh definately the least of the issues! Thank you so much again this is so new to me and i really don't want to get seriously ill!!x
