What should I expect with virus and Remicade/MTX

Would C or J just drinks the shakes as their drink with meals? I can see how it would be more of a struggle to drink a shake on its own when you're not thirsty or hungry... (Although, I would just be careful that they don't end up eating less because the shakes are so filling?? :( )

Clash, What about an MRE? Its easier than a scope and seems to be a 'first look' to rule out having to do a scope. Also, Maybe doctor is just being proactive since this flare seemed to be a bad one. Maybe he just wants to make sure Remi is doing its job in the first few weeks...not wait until you're at the end of the Remi.

PS. when my son developed antibodies he had the reaction of throat swelling up and having trouble breathing. There was no doubt. It happened on his third infusion...but I will say after his 2nd one it seemed like the Remicade wasn't working as good as the first round...but the Remi didn't even last 2 weeks. We knew something was wrong.

Good luck with talking to the GI doctor.

Hugs ..
You can develop antibodies at any time to remi especially since he just started Mtx .
DS just had his blood drawn for trough and antibodies on Monday since he didn't make it through the whole 6 weeks twice now.
He seems fine now though - infusion is next week.

C makes it about 5 weeks then all the symptoms coming back, joint pain, fatigue, mouth ulcers, his bms change, it's not D but he generally goes 1 a day or 1 every other day and his tummy feels on edge. The GI nurse mentioned something about the blood in his bm this time, it was very little blood and bright red not even sure what it meant, more like strings of blood through bm.

After the infusion, ulcers dried up, fatigue has subsided and bms have become more normal and no tummy on edge. It was last Tuesday when he had Remi, and I would say things have improved steadily.

NMMom, I would rather C have the scope and I think he would too. He had a hard time with vomiting when trying to drink contrast and/or barium with any of his other tests. He had no trouble with the prep for colonoscopy. Also if the GI is concerned I think I want him to get a look since he wasn't the dx'ing GI.

I would scope in fact we have this past June prior to the mre.
He sounds alot like DS even string blood thing- we had the same issues here before we increased the remi.
So far he is almost 5 weeks out this time so fingers crossed.
Hope the Gi has some answers for you

Yeah, if C doesn't make it this time then I agree I want a scope!! Crossing my fingers for your DS, MLP! Hope he makes past infusion day!!!
