I am recently interested in buckling down and really only eating things that promote healthy gut lining and reduce inflammation. I've been researching and have quickly remembered why I have pursued this in the past, I can't eat (what seems like) anything!

Along with the crohn's I also am allergic to dairy and lactose intolerant, and have celiac disease.

I get flare ups from all yeast products, some soy products, eggs, all dairy, all heavy proteins, majority of nightshade veggies, sugars, citrus fruit, and green leaf veggies.

Anyone have any input of a diet plan or can point me in the direction of a good website online??

Hi Jaci,

Welcome to the sight! Some of the more popular diets that some try are the SCD, paleo, or GAP. Others also juice, finding relief that way.

Here is a link for several of the mentioned diets, explaining what is allowed to be eaten and what to avoid.

On the link sight also is a mention about different nutrients such as vitamin D, magnesium, along with other supplements that might be of benefit.

For support, this is a link to others following a diet, giving their progress or lack of it at times.

Best of luck! Hope you find something that works for you.

Hi Jaci,

A low residue diet worked and continues to work for me. I just drank more fluids and ate very soft food when in a flare. The whole point of a low residue diet is to give your intestines a rest by eating food that is very easy to digest - low fiber, low residue. Of course you would have to eliminate food with gluten and can substitute with lactose-free food. Best of luck.

Welcome to the forum, Jaci. You can read about my journey of using a liquid formula to attain remission followed by a full elimination diet to keep me there: http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=31028

Also search this website for posts by soupdragon69 to learn more specific info about foods on the elimination diet.

Living Without Magazine is a really good resource for cooking without wheat/gluten, dairy, eggs and soy. http://www.livingwithout.com

godairyfree.org is a good site for cooking without dairy.

http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.ca is a good site for gluten-free cooking--her more recent recipes are dairy-free, egg-free and sugar-free as well.

I have found searching for gluten-free and vegan recipes helpful.

It has been a long process for me, but I am healthy now.

May you soon find foods that are healthy and enjoyable for you.

The only things I can eat during a bad flare that don't tear through me are rice, eggs, meat, and potatoes.

In a bad flare everything hurts and I eat basically anything that gives me some kind of desire response and then force other things down. Juices are the easiest. Of course anything like mushrooms or nuts or whatever that go straight through I would not eat because of obstruction danger.

For me, there is no one food that sets off a flare that I know of. I ate paleo 5 years and had colonoscopies, was in remission..then one day..boom, major flare. But there are foods that can make a flare more painful.

Hey, poor you having both coeliac and lactose intolerance! How did you manage to identify the foods that cause you to flare? Do you mean your symptoms get worse after eating them, or that they actually ended remission for you?

I have found the same as Sarah50 - a diet low in fibre, with lots of liquid/semi liquid food helps me.

Thank you for starting this thread Jaci. I'm in the same situation as you. I don't have Celiac Sprue but my wife does. We have a 90% gluten free home. I'm at the point where everything I eat causes frequent visits to the bathroom. I've lost a lot of weight and I'm looking for food and diet options. I don't have much to add but I will follow this thread.
