After my ileocaecal resection 8 years ago, i started to have urgent, burning stools up to 10 times a day. It is not liquid, but it is yellow and it BURNS. Could it be bile related diarrhea? I am sure that it is related to the resection, because my inflammation is very minimal in the bowel I learned on this forum that bile gets reabsorbed in the ilium. With little or no ilium left bile travels through the large intestines and acts as a laxative.
I learned that Questran binds the bile acids and I'll mention it to my GI in 2 months.

It seems like no matter what I eat, i still get this type of D.

It is has been paralyzing my life for to long, and the doctors are not listening, and i m too embarrassed to talk. I want this to go away so bad, because it controls my life! Sometimes I wish i still had a stoma, to not deal with burning diarrhea. Then I could complete my studies without having to get out of class everytime.

Hi there, welcome to the forum! Yes, Bile acid is exactly what it is. And yes Questran helped control it for 2 years and now I dont have to use it any more. Sometimes antacides help but it is because we dont absorb the like others. I too had 2 resections and after the second one bingo... I also had my gall bladder out, and that makes it worse. I eat bananas that do help. Get the Questran, takes time to regulate and you will have a better life! Good luck.

Thanks Pen

I wonder if bananas help because of the electrolyte Potassium in it. The drink Gatorade has potassium, and I love gatorade.

Why my doctors never suggested Questran is beyond me. They know I have little or no illium and that puts me at risk for bile diarreah. What negligence!

Now i have to wait another 2 months for my new GI. I am off the list of my old GI because I missed a couple of appointments.

I see you are in Montreal... the Canadian medical system is far better than the US but my doctors dont tell me stuff either, makes me wonder. Your reg Gp can get you the prescription for Questran.. start out slow with one package and if needed take another. This is why this forum helps so much, we know what doctors dont, because we live the disease every day. Dont wait to get Questran, no one should suffer. Drinking Ensure helps to replace the nutrients, I only like the strawberry flavour. Gatorade is good but has alot of sugar. If you need help just ask one of us can help you!!!

Montrealer,

I had the exact problem you describe for years.

It has gone after a bowel resection. I think this is related to a bacteria overgrow in the small intestine that affects the entire digestion.

What really help on this is something called Questran Light, ask your doctor about it.

I wonder if my fistula will heal better without all that bile acid passing through.
I've been on remicade for a year.

NO it wont kill bacteria but using good probiotic will help kill some. It should help the remicade work to better when you use Questran but I am not a doctor, so I would think acid eats everything and hurts whilst travelling through the intestines, so it can only help. :hang:
