I mean if Im going D all day everyday I would expect to loose....but Im not and Im still loosing.....any sugestions?? My docs dont seem too concerned....I am though!!

are you eating enough? or it could be that there is so much inflammation that you're not absorbing enough nutrients or your body is in need of more calories.

those are the only other things i can think of, as far as what i've heard might contribute to this kind of weight loss.

these are the main questions. How many calories are you consuming a day? You need at least 2500 with little activity to gain weight or at least sustain it. I also believe D even once a day means you are not absorbing your food properly, at least in my experience.

I had a patch like this last summer. No matter what I did the weight just kept falling off. I was forcing myself to eat and it still wasn't working. I was really freaking out. I looked like a skeleton. I ended up having to go on prednisone and I put it all back on and then some. If the doctor's aren't concerned enough to change your meds or anything, you might want to try drinking your calories, i.e. ensure, high calorie drinks (that you can tolerate), etc.

I recommend ScandiShakes. You mix with milk (I use lactose free milk) and one shake will give you a whopping 570 calories. They are not really cheap but super tasty! I also drink the Carnation Breakfast Anytime shakes and Glucerna.

Hi Kelly,

I understand what you're going through. It was very similar for me. My biggest setback was that I totally loose my appetite. It's like there is a switch that get's turned off.

I haven't lost anything over the past two weeks, but even today with the symptoms under control, I had a little bout (2X) with cramping and D. My girlfriend and I went to a restaurant, and I had 4 bites of dinner (small bites), and I couldn't eat anymore. The switch just flipped off - no pain or anything. Once again dinner is in my fridge in a box.

My appetite does appear now for more days than not, but it can shut off very quickly without any apparent reason. To answer your question, I don' have a clue why? My digestive system has never acted this way, and I'm pretty much powerless over what it does.

When I realize that I'm eating way too little, I try to enrich the protein intake with a liquid shake (it's by an organic company called "Standard Process". It also has vitamins and mineral s and nutrients. There are times when I live off that stuff for several days.

It seems protein is a problem for some of us.

I feel for you, BLM. I am in the same boat you're in. I have no diagnosis yet so my doctor hasn't put me on any meds yet (I'm going to see my GI next month and am going to ask if he can try me on some meds). I have been ill for close to a year now, and I've lost about 15 lbs in that time (I'm a fairly tall female, who was about 135 to begin with - so I started out skinny, and now I'm at about 120 and really skinny). I try to eat protien every day - either poultry or fish - and I drink an Ensure every morning for the extra calories and nutrients. I try to eat as much as I can when I'm feeling okay, because I know I'll have no appetite when I'm feeling bad. But still, I can't seem to gain any of the lost weight back. And I'm still slowly losing weight, maybe about .5 to 1 lb every month.

So long story short, I also don't know what else can be done to regain weight, other than getting on meds such as pred that promote appetite, like Kelly said. (The really sad part is, often times people will see me and ask how I stay so skinny - if only they knew!)

Hi BLM, i am in the same situation as you to, cant seem to gain any weight myself, i am still un diagnosed and am getting very stressed out as i cant go on any medication to try and stop the weight loss i have lost 3 stone in 10 months which is quite drastic, i am seeing a dietician and am taking a fortisip drink which i take 3 times a day to try to maintain calories but it still doesnt seem to work.
