Can someone please tell me their experience with Questran (the powder drink) and when it finally started working for you??? Its been days now and nothing!

Thank you~:(

I had a quarter sachet yesterday then diaorrea this morning. I noticed it contains aspartme which isn't good as the sweeteners have caused me problems since surgery. I was prescribed a quarter sachet as I was warned a full sachet would stop me going for days! Seems unlikely from where I'm sitting now. Putting the artificial sweetener in the product seems counter productive to say the least.

Hi there. Forgive me for jumping in here. I have minor issues with diahorrea since surgery. I find I have far fewer problems if I avoid fatty foods. If you are worried about the sweeteners in Questran, I know quite a few people on the forum have had good results with Psyllium Husk which is a natural treatment.

I've now taken questran for 5 months on an as and when basis. It definetly helps, no doubts. I was prescribed a quarter sachet but that does nothing. I have found a whole sachet or even 2 does the job. The IBD nurse said you can't overdose on it or anything because it isn't medication as such (i.e it doesn't enter the bloodstream) it just binds acids in the gut. But yes anything less than an entire sachet is ineffective to me.

I found that Questran started working within 2 days. Ive been taking it for about 8 years now, and I couldn't leave the house without it!!
I take 1 sachet in a pint of blackcurrant squash, and that works well. If I'm going out and may be late home I make my Questran up in a bottle and sip it whilst I'm out.
I do agree with Grumbletum and I find fatty things especially cream will having me running for the loo even with the Questran.
I also found out that Questran can lower your Vit D, so get that checked out x

I too take it as needed.... and my surgeon told me that I needed to split the dose, with a half packet (I get mine in packets now, instead of the container) twice a day (once in the morning, once before dinner).

It does certainly help some sometimes... I can go without it but then I will have to expect more bowel movements. I am taking it again today with immediate response again due to some extended traveling I am doing tonight through tomorrow. Though I do believe sometimes it doesn't help... I know after my surgery that I had in 2007, it didn't really do anything so I stopped taking it. Though after this one that I had a month ago... it is making a difference.
