I'm sitting in the infusion center during my son's 1st remi dose. Picking up his methotrexate on the way home. Dr wrote for zophran to help with nausea.

For those of you who use this combo when do you take the metho? Near remi dose? Morning or evening? Any other tips for us?

Thanks!

My son was on remicade and methotrexate and we scheduled his weekly dose of methotrexate for Friday evening to begin with so he could sleep through the nausea and have the weekend to recover. Also, originally he was on oral methotrexate weekly and has since switched to weekly methotrexate injection. Either way, he never had any of the side effects so he moved his injections to Sunday and just self injects after lunch.

Hope all goes well for your son!

M did Methotrexate at night before bed (on a Friday or Saturday usually). She, unfortunately, reacts pretty badly to MTX but most kids tolerate it just fine. We did the injection because you're supposed to have fewer side effects with it.

I don't think our Remicade/MTX shots have ever been on the same day, but that's mostly because her Remicade is usually on a Wednesday or Thursday.

Zofran does help her. You can also ask for Leucovorin, which helped a lot with side effects. Also taking folic acid every day made a big difference for M.

Good luck!

My daughter did Mtx injections for a short time. We chose Tuesday nights because she didn't have dance the following day (in case of side effects). Her only side effect ended up being significant hair loss. She did (and still does) take folic acid. No experience with Remicade though. Good luck! Hope it is your magic combo!!

My son started out with Methotrexate injections and then after a few months switched over to the pill form. He never had any problems with nausea but it does make him tired so he takes it in the evening close to bed time.

Rheumo told us to wait a few days between Mtx and humira if both were new drugs so we would know what he was reacting to.
DS takes his Thursday and humira on Friday since humira was not new for him.
We found afternoon best so by time it kicked in he was asleep
At night if we gave it he would wake up sick and tired .
Good luck

My son is on MTX only, but gets the injection Fri at bedtime as per the GI's recommendation. He gets a little nauseated and tired, but sleeps in a little longer on Sat morning and that seems to do the trick. He also takes folic acid every day except injection day, and I give him an anti-nausea med about an hour prior to injection. I hope this combo works well for your son!

We always did ours Friday night or Saturday. We would do it before bed also. My son didn't have signs of nausea at first. But after he was on it for awhile, he did. We would also allow him to sleep it off.

I take Gravol a few hours before injection and have injection very last thing before bed. If I get up after it, I get very bad headaches. I try to have a quiet day for next 2 days as the headaches and fatigue get me down. Nausea was bad at first but taking folic acid daily rather than weekly has helped that a lot.

My son just started taking Methotrexate and received his first Remicade infusion. His Methotrexate is taken on Thursday night and he has had no side effects.

I am just wondering if it is an issue that this week (2nd Remicade infusion) he has the remicade on the same day as Methotrexate. I saw an earlier post that indicated this may be a concern.

My daughter takes mtx orally with folic acid and has never had any side effects. Her doc wasn't concerned with it coinciding with Remicade. She takes mtx on Thursdays so I am sure somewhere along the line she may have had an infusion on the same day but just not sure and infusion nurses have never asked if the infusion day also happened to be an mtx day so I would assume not a problem.

We do evenings so as to sleep through any side effects.

My kid did Mtx only with Humira as Remicade was already stopped when that was added. We were told to separate the 2 dosages as far apart as possible. We did Humira on Sunday & Mtx on Wednesdays.

Do you have a company that organizes the Remicade? Maybe they could give you a suggestion. We always had a doc there for the infusions & I used to use the opportunity to ask questions I didn't ask the doc. He would answer if it wasn't case specific like, "what combo meds have you seen be most effective" or "can you take advil with Remicade" etc.
