Well, my question is there already. I'm having laparoscopically assisted ileocecal resection (February 23rd) and I'm curious when I could be discharged home. My surgeon said it might be 4 days or more, but I'd like to know the average from you guys. Thank you so much

5 days for me. Mainly because my guts went to sleep. The sooner things start moving the sooner you get out.
Rgds

6 days for me for the exact same reason as grant my bowels needed a kick start though with some laxatives and TBH they've been lazy ever since!! Good luck

5 days for me. They would not let me leave until having bm. Funny, I thought of it as laying the golden egg. The doc required me to have a nurse view it since he knew I was anxious to get out of that place. Good luck!

Ok, so the average is now 6.75 days
I think 5 days sounds ok.

Keep 'em comin'

At first I thought I'd get an open surgery, but the surgeon said they will try to do it laparoscopically (and boy was I happy about the news!). I'm positive about it working out well, so they wouldn't have to cut me wide open.

5 days for me. Bring chewing gum and chew it twice a day, studies have shown that gets people out of there faster.

I hope your surgery goes well and you have the best possible outcome.

10 for me. As above, it all went to sleep, and couldn't be woken up ! Eating and drinking with nothing happening inside resulted in a NG tube and aspiration for 4 days until things started to wake up !

Yikes, I'm terrified already when I think I might have a NG tube inserted. I couldn't let them put it prior my MRI, and I couldn't drink the radiocontrast agent either so I drank water. I'm such an easy patient, can you tell?

Gosh, I really, really hope my bowels will wake up fast and easy! I sure am taking gum with me and be up as much as possible.

16 days until February 22nd - that's the day I'm going in. Well, I might get to come home that night, it depends when my surgery is scheduled the next day.

Hi Suvii :bigwave: I stayed in for week after 6-7 days because they put me in a week prior and post op because the pumped me full of antibiotics.. So glad they did because I was good for 8 years!!! Even tho it was laproscopic they wanted to make sure all infections were gone. Try not to worry sweetie. Are you going to have a epidural? BTW I never had an NG tube and I refused anyways even if they did. My body I aint suffering anymore than I had too. Good luck. I am here for ya!!!!

I went in for surgery just over a year ago. I was supposed to be having a laproscopically assisted illeocectomy (sp?) as well... when they got in there they found a large abscess and had to cut me open to remove it. I was terrified I'd wake up with an NG tube or a bag. Luckily, I woke up with neither! I was up and walking about 8 hours after surgery and had a bm in no time. ( I was a little freaked out by the feeling/consistincy (not to be gross, but I wish I had known what to expect, so hear it goes.. lol). The poop just kind of fell out from what just felt like gas (luckily i went to the toilet just in case!), and was like heavy damp sand... that may not be the best description, but its the best I can put into words.. it was just different than any other poo I'd had before...

To answer your question I was out of the hospital in 3 days!! All I can say is walk, walk, walk... and when you feel like just laying... walk! ;-)

Good luck!
