are you all able to lead a normal life? without having to worry about medications, flares etc. can we without any fear eat everything we like?go for sleepovers and not to be ashamed of using their washrooms for hours?can we have hangovers too without worrying about pain? can i go to college everyday without that intense pain?

how do u people deal with this? it has been seven months since i have been diagnosed with crohns and i am really depressed and shattered in pain always.
the medications do work for sometime then the flares.....

i don't see a ray of hope!

Art, I have been going through a flare since November. Caused me have my gallbladder removed, going to talk with a colorectal surgeon in 4 days. I went to family doctor to get some pain meds due to my GI wont prescribe them. If you get your meds right, you should get "Some" relief. Hope you get to doing better. All I can say is to take it one day at a time.

It sounds like your doctor has not yet found a treatment that is fully working for you. Yes, normal lives can be lived, with this disease under control you should not be in pain.

I've done 20+ hour road trips, work full time, have a home life......it is all mostly due to my medication working for me, and I've been on a lot over the years!

Has your doctor put you on a treatment plan? If it has been months without results from medications, you should be in contact with your doctor too see what else should be done.

I'm sorry to hear what you're dealing with. :(

Seven months feels like a long time when you're so unwell, but your diagnosis is still relatively new. It can take a while to sort out the best treatment plan for you (as Lisa said). Many people with IBD go through a few different options or even combinations of medications before finding the right one. Again, as Lisa said, if you've been on the same medication all this time and are still feeling this poorly, you really need a change.

Normal is possible. You may always have to take medication(s) or avoid certain foods, but once in remission (and even in mild flares, for many) these things shouldn't interfere with your life.

I'd still try to avoid hangovers, though. :p I've been in remission for close to five years, as best as we can tell, and I still can't stand the thought of knowingly making myself feel sick!

There's hope. You might not see it now (and that's understandable), but things will improve.

I live a fairly normal life but I have to be ever vigilant. I have to take my Meds and stay on my "diet" which for me is the Paleo diet, it has made a huge difference for me. But I still will have an occasional flare. Eating out is hard, going to parties is hard, but I finally decided for me, the risk of a flare/obstruction is not worth going off my diet. Luckily I am a fairly disciplined person by nature. I think for some people things are fairly easy, but for others it is a day to day grind. Hoping you find your path to a balance.

i have been on the same medications for about 3months. but nothing has changed. when i visit my GI he says its the right treatment it will take time. and i recently figured out that he has been giving me mesalamine tablets too and that is not that beneficial for crohns. i am really tired of this!

Artsyverv:

The doctors in the USA, have to try the least expensive drugs first for insurance purposes. I had the same problem when I was Dx. After 2 weeks I was at my GI once a week. He finally put in for Humira and my insurance approved it. He told me "off the record" that he had to start me on pentasa to pacify my insurance company, even though pentasa is more for UC and I have severe fistulaing Crohn's Disease. Finding the right doctor that will adhere to your needs is key.

What medications are you on? Sorry if you stated above and I missed it.

Three months is a bit long to go without seeing any improvements. It definitely doesn't sound like the medication is working for you. I agree with Justanothercp - it may be time for a second opinion.

i have taken a second and also third opinion. all the doctors gave the same treatment. i take vegaz od(mesalamine), budes cr, folic acid and nimuculide.

Mesalamine has been proven to be an ineffective treatment option for Crohn's disease. Have you insisted on a change of medication? Don't be afraid to do so. Are you tapering off the steroid, or are they keeping you on that as well?

i have insisted on a change of medication but the doctor says its the best treatment for now. yes i am still on steroids i guess. its crazy and i am really sick these days.

Sorry to see you are struggling I was diagnosed a couple of years ago and found its a lot of trial and error with different meds, just stay strong and you will find something that works for you.
