I am fairly new to all this, having only been diagnosed 3 months ago. I am currently on Pred 25mg and Aza 125mg. But still having flare ups whenever I reduce the Pred.

My doctors have told me that food makes no difference to crohns disease and not to watch what I eat but I'm wanting to try something else to try and ease my symptoms, and symptoms of GERD where possible..

However I'm not sure where to start.. Where did you guys start when looking at the different diets? Is there a good one to start with? I have tried keeping an eye on what food I eat before my symptoms flare up but haven't as yet been able to spot a pattern.

Would really appreciate any suggestions on where to start with diets, alternative treatments etc? And also the same for anyone who suffers with GERD and anything that worked..

I'm going down the same road right now. Sick of being sick and sick of taking medication.

24, male, Canadian and diagnosed two years ago.

I'm aiming for a 'real' foods diet that has elements of GAPS, SCD, FODMAP and Paleo. How's that for buzz words? Start googling.

I'm no expert and sort of stumbling through this at the moment but things I've been avoiding totally for the time being are: grains of all kinds, soy, dairy (with the exception of Greek yogurt), seed oils, processed sugar (I have honey or maple syrup in my tea occasionally, that's about it), legumes (this includes peanuts) and anything with any ingredient on the package that I can't immediately identify (or anything in a package at all if I can help it).

My GI told me diet wasn't important either and that most people feel better eating "comfort foods". It's not true. Could not be further from the truth. It's not a lie it's a damned lie.

I'm switching GI's next week for exactly this reason.

I am most certainly feeling better but check back with me in December to see if I am remission.

Race you?

I have never really had a problem with what I eat, unless I'm horribly flaring. When that happens, it's a liquid diet for me. Broth and the like.

Some foods will cause gas and bloating, but I guess I'm used to it.

Amazon or your local bookstore is a good place for information. Maybe even the library. And I'm sure a search of the forums will net you some good info.

I take omeprazole for GERD. That seems to help quite a bit.

Good luck. I hope you feel better!:ysmile:

The first place to start is diet,

You might be one of the lucky ones who become totally symptom free with minor changes but probably you will only have a major improvement with strict adherance to a rigid diet.

I'd go over this site fairly closely.

'Several lines of evidence suggest that increased
intestinal permeability has a central role in the
patho genesis of IBD.'

There is a comprehensive list of what a helps and what harms 'leaky gut', and diet would be the main one.

I found SCD helped a bit but paleo has seen me gain wait and poop normally

gerd
"low stomach acid causes bacterial overgrowth in the gut, which in turn produces gas that puts pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter, causing it to open and inappropriately allow acid into the esophagus."

" Reduce factors that promote bacterial overgrowth and low stomach acid.
Replace stomach acid, enzymes and nutrients that aid digestion and are necessary for health.
Restore beneficial bacteria and a healthy mucosal lining in the gut."

gerd diet is the same as crohn's diet , what a coincidence.
