why is it that I can eat a sausage mcmuffin with no problem but a homemade egg and cheese sandwich goes right thru me???

Breakfast is my hardest meal.

I can't eat them either, once in a blue moon I can eat an egg mcmuffin but the egg is gassy for me and the pain isnt worth it. I find breakfast to be the easiest meal. I love stuff like Quinoa flakes hot cereal, rice milk and cinnamon. I have cranberry toast some mornings. Trial and error is the name of the game in this disease, sometimes I can eat something and the next time forget it! Keep experimenting, but having fried food is a dangerous game for me, not worth it.

Eggs are hit ot miss for me. I like to eat at work so it is something I can pop in microwave. I guess I just need to keep trying!

Fried eggs cause me trouble, which is a shame, as it's one of the few things I can cook!:chef:

Breakfast is my hardest meal too, because I feel like I physically cannot stomach anything solid until about 10 or 11 AM. I am supposed to take my Entocort first thing in the morning, with food. So I drink about 1/2 an Ensure and then take my pills, that's the most I can stomach in the mornings.

Oddly, the chocolate flavor of Ensure is fine - but the vanilla flavor goes right through me. It's weird how that kind of thing happens, like there's one teeny little ingredient hidden in there that my body doesn't like. Must be similar to your egg McMuffin issue.

Hiya Becky

I have Oats So Simple, (golden syrup flavour) by Quaker, in the microwave at work, it's gorgeous! And it agrees with me too! No belly aches. Can you have milk?

Yum. Yum. Yum.

I find smoothies, vegetable juices and ripe bananas make a good breakfast. I make the smoothies and juices at home and then transport them to work for consumption later in the morning.

For breakfast this morning I had:

6am smoothie made with spinach, banana and water.
10am smoothie made with half a pineapple, half a papaya, a very ripe banana, a handful of blueberries, the water from one coconut and soaked chia seeds.

I saw this breakfast smoothie recipe on a yoga website and tried it and it certainly fills you up for hours  :

6 sulphur-free dried dates
¼ cup raw almonds
5 raw walnut halves
1 tablespoon raw sesame seeds
1 tablespoon raw sunflower seeds
1 medium ripe banana
½ mango
½ avocado
2¼ cup rice milk
1 tablespoon lecithin granules
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon spirulina powder
1 teaspoon vanilla essence - but I used a real vanilla pod.
½ teaspoon cinnamon

Soak the dates, almonds, walnuts, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds overnight in 2 cups of water. Drain and set aside. Place all the ingredients in a blender and whiz for 2 minutes. Serve in tall glasses with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. You can use other fruit in season.

If you don't like rice milk, you could also use dairy milk, soy milk, nut milk, hemp milk, water from a coconut or plain water.

I was going to suggest that maybe you cannot tolerate real cheese? And yeah, how are you cooking your own eggs? If fried, maybe it's the fried-ness that is bothering you. Maybe go for a hard poached egg or scrambled (no milk added) Or maybe it's the bread you are using for your sandwich? Some people can't tolerate whole grains. There's rice cheese or soy cheese you could try instead of real cheese. See if that helps :)

They also make pasteurized eggs too. I've been eating those since I started on Humira and Imuran so I can still enjoy a good fried egg every once in a while :)

Maybe the egg mcmuffin isn't even real egg?!?!?! If it is real egg,I don't think it's fried - Ithink it's microwaved or something. I have a friend with half a stomach and major digestive issues and one of the only things she can tolerate is a BK breakfast sandwich with sausage.

Hmmm. Maybe those fast food sausages have some sort of magic elixir in them.

I was going to mention the fake egg too. Haha. I imagine McD's breakfast isn't all that "natural." So, I agree with Amy. Maybe the natural stuff is just harder to digest.

I made scrambled eggs. They are one of those things that one day I can eat and the next I can not.

I can tolerate cheese. I think I would die if I couldnt!

I wasnt getting egg mcmuffin just sausage one. I jsut thought it stinks that I can eat crappy fast food but not homemade stuff. I made my own sausage biscuit today and I was fine. I should start making smoothies and eat oatmeal more.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
