Since I recently started Aza, my GI slowed my prednisone taper and had to write me a new script. Long story short, we discovered I had accidentally been given 1mg tablets instead of 10 mg tabs - starting at 6mg instead of 60mg. While I think "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," doc wants me to jump from 2.5mg to 30mg. I can't till Monday anyways, but I had my concerns increasing the dose so much since they're so adamant about tapering off so slowly. Can this be bad for my system? Thought I lucked out with minimal side effects (though I have had hair loss & extra moodiness the past few weeks).

I don't think the jump to the higher dose would do any harm. Some folks including myself have started low and had to increase for various reasons. But how are you feeling? Do you still have lots of symptoms? Have you had progress tests? If I was feeling better, then I wouldn't want to do the increase either cos the slow taper is hard work.

It won't hurt anything. I've had to take prednisone for other things and started at 40 mg with a quick taper over 4 or 5 days. This is how they do a short course for things like allergic reactions.

Thank you for the advice and reassurance. I definitely had a stern talk with the doctor, because I have been feeling okay, but he nicely explained that it was very important to correct my dose now. Taking the first 30mg dose this morning, fingers crossed!

Dont panic about the Pred... I felt "great" for years but still needed Pred to control bleeding that resulted in iron deficiency anemia.

As long as you respect the drug it will be fine. Follow the doctors taper and if you trust him, stick to it. If you dont trust him, find another one that you do.

I have been jumping all over the place with my Pred doses for a few years now and whilst I have had some side-effects, they tend to go away as I lower the dose.

Best of luck

Stevo
